In the 1970s when my kids were young I traced doll clothes patterns from a book at the public library that had patterns for the 12 1/2 inch fashion dolls - Barbie, etc. The patterns were simplified - most clothing items were cut in one piece and had only one or two seams. White glue was used to keep the edges from raveling, or the clothes were lined to make reversible items. Now my sister wants to make doll clothes for her granddaughters, and I've lost my patterns. Does anyone know the book I'm talking about and if so, can you tell me the title and author? The book was probably published in the 1970s, maybe even the late 60s. I'd really like to find it again. Simplicity and McCall's used to carry patterns for cloth dolls, as well as separate clothing pieces. Best bet is to check their 'big' catalogs. Wal-Mart and JoAnn's have the catalogs. Both pattern companies have websites, but doubt that they'd show everything they carry on-line. Good luck.

Liddybuff, you're welcome. Isn't that just the most clever idea? There are some amazingly creative genius women on the web. I couldn't believe how quick and easy this was. If your doll has much of a figure, you will see just where to make darts to flatten your "master pattern" out. Remember that this will make a garment that is skin tight, so allow a little extra seam allowance, and a little more again if it's a dress going over a slip, or shoes going over socks, etc. Between this trick and the book, I'm all set to sew about anything I can imagine (or figure out from photos).
