Gardenweb lover, not houzze lover

I am not working on any damn project. I come to Garden Forum to ask questions regarding horticulture. There are some very knowledgeable people and they provide valuable information. I don't give a fig for houzz and whatever else you offer! I noticed you've changed the set up for Gardenweb forum. Are you trying to discourage people going to Gardenweb? Furthermore, you are in US. I prefer to find help on my own. Not from dubious sources.

Don't know much about the changes but heard that if Houzz hadn't purchased GardenWeb it would've been closed down. I can put up with Houzz to get to the forums and talk to the people I've grown to think of as gardening friends.

It's quite possible, I don't know. However, I think Garden Web was bought with one thing in mind, to get more customers for Houzz. Ever since they got it, it has been more and more complicated to open Garden Web forums. Sometimes it appears as if there are efforts to make it inaccessible.

The banana trees I have in my yard have held together quite well all year. They had a tear here or there but they maintained their "whole leaf" appearance for the most part. That was until the winds from Rita shreaded them a bit which I've added a picture of them below. Your friend must have lived in a very windy area since hers always seemed to have this appearance. Regardless of if they are sheaded or whole I still think they give a very tropical effect to any landscape. Plus they are very cheap and grow very fast. -Todd

An idea for the dog lovers out there! :)

Just make sure that it's either not too big, or if it is, that a human could get in. If your dog were ill, injured, or worse, you might have to get them out of there. I would make it the size of an appropriate dog crate- big enough for them to be comfortable; small enough to reach in. You also might want or need to clean it from time to time. Now you've got me thinking about where I'm going to put one in our yet-to-be-built new home!

Question for trash pull-out lovers

Sometimes I plan ahead and have it open, or use a paper towel. I don't like to put raw meat products in the trash, as we only go to the dump about once a month. Even though I keep the trash in a remote shed, meat products really stink! I rinse the packaging a bit, and meat scraps and bones go in the freezer, either to make stock or to go to the dump. Vegetable matter goes to compost. The problem for me was handling raw meat to put it on the grill, and then try to enter the house, go to the sink and turn on the faucet with marinade dripping off of my hands. I bought a big pack of disposable restaurant gloves and solved that problem.

I agree, not a very friendly format for those who want to get to the garden forums. Couldn't find a way to access them at all from the Houzz app....

I'm having a different experience. I used the old garden web and then had to take 4-5 years off to get a new garden started. I have always bookmarked pages, and I have garden web pages bookmarked, both the master list of GW forums

and the forums I visit most. In addition, as I've done some painting, etc, to a house that needs work in more than painting, I've really enjoyed Houzz's other features and am glad have it. They have a very easy format for me to look at other non-garden house "stuff" and I've gotten some valuable info, too.

Maybe add some bookmarks? GW is pretty painless for me right now with bookmarks, and I LOVE how easy it is to add photos. Before I had to use Photobucket, which is under no circumstances an option since they started charging in the hundreds for the use of their services. Very glad I can upload pictures from my computer directly now.

I never realized there was a problem with photos, but it's working well now.
