Can this room pull off a splash of orange?
Comments (29)After living with samples for a few days, I took Fun2behere's advice and went with the darkest of my samples. It was the one that felt right and like the rug it seemed to ground the room. It is a tapestry weight fabric with a dark grey background mixed with lighter greys and yellow. It has been snowing quite a bit so I have been home a lot more than usual so I was able to finish one radiator cover and make one cushion this week. I hope to complete the second one by next weekend:). Here is a picture of the final choice fabric. And thank you to everyone, all your opinions and advice really helped me finalize my choice. I think it feels like it was here forever so I think I might have chosen well:)> This post was edited by roarah on Wed, Feb 5, 14 at 15:45...See MoreAuthentic English Style
Comments (94)Obviously, I adore England. I'm planning my next trip back (hope it will be next year, just "Mum and me" again). I find England's culture and history intriguing, and her people, by and large, to be charming and unfailingly polite. That said, there are two things that I don't like about England, silly though at least one of them may be: 1. I hate the "non-mixing" faucets and can't understand why these are still even in existence. It's like washing your hands in an airplane lavatory. Bah! 2. Tiny little lanes that are heavily traveled by vehicles, coming and going, but there's only room for one car in the lane. I have never in my life done so much frantic reversing and backing into barely-there little turnouts so that an oncoming vehicle (usually a very fast-moving oncoming vehicle!) could get by. One instance in particular had me face-to-face with a speeding lorry, and nowhere to go! He finally reversed and backed for yards and yards, so that I could go by. I understand it's a relatively small island, but jeez - if you're going to allow vehicles to travel down lanes in both directions, at least make them wide enough so vehicles can actually travel down lanes in both directions! OK, so that was completely unsolicited and non-decor-related. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming. ;-D...See MoreLayers of wallpaper - add another layer, or strip?
Comments (13)Ok - a small update. I went to our local paint/wallcovering store and she said while it is possible to put another layer on (after gluing down any lifted areas) that it would be best if I stripped and then re-papered. She then showed me a book with textured papers in it that were already colored, and she pointed out a gorgeous plaster look-alike that I loved, and it will eliminate the step of painting for me, which frees up more energy and time for me to strip the wallpaper. I don't know why it didn't dawn on me to find a textured paper that was already finished instead of the type that needs paint. DOH! But, anyways... I think that is the way I am leaning - strip the current layers, re-paper in a faux plaster wallcovering....See MoreFrench Country or Cottage Style -- Curtains to match pillows?
Comments (10)Thanks for all the great ideas. I do like the idea of using ticking stripes; but the room already has a stripe in the lampshade, which is right next to the window. If I get the striped curtains, I'll probably change the shade. I will definitely order some sample fabrics from Country Curtains. I'm still drawn to their toile curtains, even though I don't want an entire room of toile. This is sort of how I envisioned the toile fabric working with the red floral pillows. (Thanks for the link to the toile rooms. That's where I found this picture.)...See Morereesepbuttercup SLC, Utah 6b
