African Violets

What could be causing this weird angle?

These guys kind of refuse to flatten out. The one on the right is too lightly-colored but otherwise they're fine. I've heard this can be caused by too little light, so they've been nearest the window for a while. No change. I don't think I've been over-fertilizing, and the ones I use all have micronutrients.

All thoughts appreciated. :o)

Some AVs are geneticaly predisposed to grow up, and some to hug the pot. They look pretty healthy to me.

The one on the right has always kinda done it, but not this much. The one on the left is usually much much flatter. My fertilizers have NPKs higher in the first two but not the last one... I dunno if that'd contribute though.

It looks like tomato sunscald to me. Common with fruit that is over-exposed to hot sun. This one doesn't appear to be getting any shade protection from the plant. Yes, the rest of the fruit will be fine. Dave

Catlady, have you been to the doctor yet? I just read your post and I had similar symptoms. I couldn't hold a coffee cup unless I held it with both hands. Whatever I had in my hand, my hand would jerk and it was embarassing at work as sometimes I would spill my coffee. My family doctor was one wise lady. I thought I had carpal tunnel syndrome, but she immediately knew it was coming from my back. She sent me to a neurologist and I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease. It does sound like a back or neck problem, but we aren't doctors here, all we can do is guess. Please go see a neurologist if you haven't already.

Looks like it might have mealy bugs - the white fluffy stuff on the underside of the plant and the stem in the last two photos - which could be distorting the growth. If it is mealies, you can get rid of them using a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. You may have to repeat multiple times until the infestation is gone.

Look at that you got the best answer to your question! I've been doing more clean up than anything but I did plant a few Shagbark Hickory and Japanese White Pine. Transplanted a 7', 1.25" caliper Hybrid Oak - that thing was a beast to dig up. Getting too old for transplants now. I have a collection of plants in my garage shipped from out of the state. Until a I see a 10 day forecast free of anything in the low 30s I'll be waiting. Looks like that day could be Sunday. Last week was damn cold - record daily low on Wednesday. Half the month has been at least 10 degree below normal. At least everything hasn't budded out and then gets blasted by a freeze.

Probably you are right regarding light. It is hard to estimate the window light, I am so spoiled having everything under fluorescents - easy to change the light - just move the plant straight under the tubes...

You're def lucky to have those lights. :o) Maybe someday...

This did just start when the fall light kicked in, so maybe it's seasonal or the light just isn't bright enough?? I'll try moving it to my even brighter window, hopefully they respond.

Way to go!

You can always hang a shoplight or a 24 inches fluorescent over any horizontal surface. Makes a difference on the overall blooming - especially in winter.

I have one thats just straight up and down..I tried everything from weighing it down.. more light (which scorched the leaves) to giving it less.
