Spooky Cupcake Ideas, Please

My neighborhood is having it's final BBQ of the year in a few weeks. I will be making dozens and dozens of cupcakes to contribute and thought Halloween ones might be fun for the children. I am not very creative. Anyone have suggestions how to decorate them? Also fall themed ones would be good also.

I have a few easy ones saved on pinterest. If it exists, it's on pinterest! Not so spooky, as cute and easy. Apparently all sponsored by oreo!

If you Google "spooky Halloween cupcakes", you'll get dozens of great ideas from simple to complex. Wow! I wish I had a reason to make some!

Luvs, if you are going to hang these on a tree I would stick with the half styrofoam ball, coat it with gesso and use dimensional paint for decorating, I agree that plaster would be heavey, This might sound crazy but if you have old candles laying around you can melt them and whip the wax to use as a frosting over the half ball, you can melt crayons for color shake cake sprinkles over warm wax ( I did this and made sugar cookies ) you could dip the ball in wax if you didnt want to beat it, dimanod dust would look like sugar, the wax might be to heavey also, if you are seting them on a plate it wouldnt matter what you use, sandi idea sound good also, now you know you will have to let us know what you used and photos please! Hmmm. Even The Princess, who is the pickiest eater in the world, will eat carrot cupcakes. She even knows there are carrots in there and she still eats them. She won't eat pineapple though, and so I have to leave the pineapple out of the carrot cake. Georgysmom is right, they'd rather have candy, so buy a bag of M&Ms or Hershey's and make the kids happy. No Snickers or Reeses, though, there's that pesky peanut thing going on. Actually, cookies and cupcakes get too beaten up on the trip to school, unless you're going to deliver them personally. The Princess likes to make her own "trail mix" with raisins and M&Ms and chocolate Cheerios, no nuts, package them into little snack bags and it's ready to go. If there isn't a peanut butter issue, she also really likes to take the rice krispie treats made with peanut butter with the chocolate topping, although we've managed to get away with making them with Cocoa Krispies and peanut butter and pressing a few M&Ms on the top and so there isn't the problem of melting chocolate if it's hot. Both the grandkids also like to take those rice krispie treats, make them into balls and roll them in sprinkles, or cut the treats into shapes with cookie cutters. Annie

My googly eyed Halloween clusters are super easy: Melt equal amounts of semisweet chocolate chips and butterscotch chips in the microwave or double boiler. Mix those together until smooth. Add an equal amount of dried chow mien noodles. For reference, I used 1.5 cups each of the chips and ~ 6 oz. of the chow mien noodles. Place clumps (clusters?) of these on waxed paper and smoosh a googly eye on top. Chill until firm. The hardest part of this recipe is finding the gummy eyeballs. I couldn't find them this year, except in a huge bag of "Minions" eyeballs, and I didn't really want to buy that much. So I used candy ones from Michaels, but the report was that those were almost inedible. Here's what they looked like using the candy eyeballs:

Some favorites from last year:

These were the easiest ones to make, too. Visit a local craft store like Michaels for amazing cupcake decorating supplies. Candy eyes are great! I bought several colors of eyes....spiders should have crazy eyes!

I made others, too, but spent time with my icing tips. Cutest was a mummy face with eyes peeking from behind the bandages, lol.

You can find candy corn, leaves, and other fall themed edibles at a craft store....some at the grocery store. Simple: pumpkin cupcake, cream cheesey frosting, candy corn and pumpkins on top. Maybe a light dusting of orange sugar sand, too.

Use the internet for ideas, for heaven's sake!

Be sure to use an assembly line method for decorating....first the sprinkles on the whole batch, then the legs, then the eyes. Have the boxes ready when each is finished so that you can pack them up right away.
