anyone ever made thrummed mittens

I hadn't until a month ago but I've looked at them on line for a while now. Thrummed mittens are knit in wool yarn and you weave in small pieces of carded wool every 4th stitch and 4th row. This is supposed to make a super warm mitten with a lining that is like lambs wool. Weaving in the bits of wool makes a nice pattern on the outside of the mitten.
The process originated in Newfoundland and probably Scandinavian countries. They were originally knit for fishermen fishing in the cold north Atlantic ocean. Because pure wool keeps it's warmth even when wet they worked to keep their hands warm. Now that I've mastered the art my kids and grandkids are all getting a pair for Christmas
