masculine style - post your pics
Comments (63)newhomebuilder- sorry, I just saw your questions today. I am in the midst of a major kitchen project and I have been living over in the kitchens forum lately. Anyway, I will find a few more pictures for you, thanks for all of the kind words! The french doors- the pair going outside go to a small private patio that has an outdoor fireplace, the indoor french doors- they are both fake. One side is see through, in order to let light into the kitchen. The other side is mirrored and just there to match and to reflect light back into the room. There is not a separate bedroom, but there is a murphy queen bed that goes away when we are not using it as a bedroom....See MoreHelp - gray kitchen looks "masculine"
Comments (89)That's an awesome kitchen. The island looks like a work of art. My kitchen is a billion times smaller and not nearly so gorgeous, but I felt like I had a bit of the same issue. I have taupe cabinets in a galley configuration, and it felt more monochromatic and more modern than I intended. (In retrospect, I probably would have chosen something different than a plain eased edge on my Silestone, for example, to add a little softer touch. Maybe different pulls too - I love mine but they seemed to accentuate the straight lines.) The good thing is that this is such a beautiful space! I think there are three relatively easy ways to make a difference in the overall feel of the room: first, the chandelier. The one that's there seems a little too ordinary. I would spend a bunch of time on every great lighting site and do some photoshop to find something that brings in whatever element the homeowner feels is missing. (Depending on the choice, that might mean different pendants too.) Then, some stools with fabric seats as some of the previous posters have suggested. Finally, I'd look for a couple of great runners that bring in the style she wants to convey. (If it were me, I'd suggest some old Persian carpets, but that's pretty individual.) A few little tweaks that incorporate the homeowner's sense of style, and it won't be a question of masculine or feminine - it will just feel like her home....See MoreDecorative Pillows- Living Room
Comments (30)I love your room I agree with opinions that state there are too many pillows as of now. Nothing to do with "girlie" I think(we all articulate feelings in different ways, and not always precisely)-everything to do with shapely, distinctively contemporary sofas. The style lends itself to less pillows used(and I'm saying is as quite a big fan of pillows.) You're right, I think, in trying to find pillows that have patterns that would marry some of your colors together. The possibilty of using an odd color-also mentioned before-something bold, like your orchid(I mean in mood, not neccessarily in color, even though I adore purples)-but can be almost anything-can be also exciting. I love different texture you have-is it cowhide? Different texture is one of the ways to go too. For now, I'd just play with how many and which pillows to leave, and slowly look for the ones that you both will be excited about. Look for the comfiest possible-that always adds to the experience. Say I love ikat you've posted(and ikats in general)-but I'd make sure what the fabric is even if my favorite pattern, perfect colors, etc. (it does seem to be a good fabric, just an example) It's a room that spells luxury, that you've created. "An uptown" room. You need just several well-chosen pillows..take your time, and have fun-pillows are huge fun to choose....See Morehelp decorating masculine home office
Comments (5)The room was previously decorated with art, decorative pieces above hutch and rug but we have cleared that all out and are restarting. This is his personal office so he is only in there a few hours a week doing solo work (no clients or zoom calls), etc. We will remove tree, the "heirloom" table and replace the lighting. I was looking for ideas for art, rugs and window treatments. The furniture is very traditional, but we have been renovating the house and moving away from traditional. Thank you all for your ideas!!...See MoreUser
