I personally run two 400W MH bulbs in my basement to cover a 4x8 foot area. All you need to cool things down a bit is a standard fan that runs all day. Unless the prices have dropped the problem with the T5 set-ups is they were as expensive as a 400W MH set-up, including ballast, etc. and the bulbs are very expensive...they only illuminate what is directly under them like any other fluorescent fixture you buy (no horizontal reach at all). Since my basement can use the extra heat I went with the old stand-by technology and have been using it for several years now.....almost no Hippis under it as most of mine are dormant in the winter (I do not force mine to grow out of season), but many South African Amaryllids.....Brunsvigia, Gethyllis, Boophane are within 2 inches of these bulbs (well there is a glass plate protecting the bulb from stray water which can cause an explosion) and they do well.......tried a 600W HPS with an extended spectrum last year, but it kept tripping my GFI circuit when it fired so was not something I could use. I'd like a 1,000W MH for some of my really tall Amorphophallus and Dracontium, but that will have to wait I suppose. People on the growing under light forum can give you a HUGE amount of info, but really, most is just over the top......good growing, whatever you decide to use :o) Dan

Ha, yes mine was very dirty. It was kind of fun washing it and seeing the real beauty emerge from under the grime. My dh was also amazed I would actually order dirty scrap anything hehe.I sorted all my colors out into jars, and there's some beautiful pieces. I think I got 20 pounds. I'd love to do my glass topped patio table with it after seeing your gorgeous project. Cindy

Thank you...I did a search to see many potting table/benches posted to this forum group. Wasn't sure where to put it. But it seen in a search many came up here. Definitely not Asian feel...as my bonsai tend to be. But I'm a firm believer of having what I like at hand...and they both bring me joy. The window was seen in the storefront of an antique shop which I happen to know the owner of. I was so afraid someone would snatch this window up from me that I called him at home. Asking to put a sold sign on it for me until I had time to pick it up. Their two days a week open hours...didn't corilate with my schedule that week. And windows like that doesn't sit long in the store front window. It's lovely...more country feel than Asian. But a new trend is coming for Artisian Bonsai. Which it to put an American twist to it. So...I have been told by a few that is what they get from seeing my bonsai on it. When in all honesty that was flattering to hear it. It wouldn't change my mind on how I display my trees. Filled up an awkward area on the deck...and the window is charming. Win/win if you ask me.

Oy yes...I'll take a pic for you..In fact I'd be glad to send you a bottle if you can't find it or if it not the pure oil... I really have not had to use that much since the plants in the warm room and regular houseplants don't get mites lately...But if they did, that is exactly what I would do... When you lay that plastic down, make sure it is the 4m or thicker so that when you step on it it won't rip, even double up on a layers...Put enough down so that you can fold the plastic up at the end of your pots making like a huge cup...You know what I mean...It will catch the water and you can water as much as you want too without it leaking on to your floor...It will most definitely keep that area humid as it dissipates and the fan on the floor blowing across it towards the bottom of your leaves will make the area most hostile to mites for sure! Use the window box fans you can get for 12 bucks..It will be your life saver! Please, let me see your set up once you have it..).. Only spray with Neem, half strength since it will still smother bugs without smothering your fruitlets and buds...You will be able to spray as often as you want without ruing the floors and your trees...You will be so happy you did this..Just watch out for your walls...If you have windows, you can just windex the solution off them. Give your trees a good rinse of water before you bring them in especially under the leaves and let me know what your set up looks like...You might not even want a greenhouse if you can get this right..I know you can! It is what I would do and it is what always worked for me...
