They are pretty slow growing around here. My previous neighbor had a specimen about 15 years old...12 tall, maybe 9' wide. Milwaukee domes has a 20 year specimen...about 18' tall maybe 10' wide. Jon, I probably did answer my own question. I'll be happy to give it away as long as my neighbor puts it in his backyard for me to enjoy. I already have him a nice sized Autumn Gold Ginkgo. He put it about 20' off the lot line so I can enjoy it too! Ken, are you saying get rid it of mainly because of its placement or is the point you can get a well branched specimen for cheap and they grow fast (perhaps both)? Picture below (going from left to right)... 1st Red circle = Bosnian pine. It croaked from too much water and had a troll of a root system. 2nd Red circle = Princeton Sentry Ginkgo. I dug this one up because of a major gridling root and had a jacked graft. This is where I put the bald cypress last fall. 3rd Red circle = Picea abies 'Cupressina' and Firebird Crabapple. So if I give the BC the boot I can put a Picea glauca 'Dent' where the Pine was. Put a Super Sonic Red Maple where the BC is (more room for the spruce inbetween that and the Regal Prince Oak). Maybe that is the better plan.

The JPF is easily divided, since it spreads by rhizones, you can remove a section of the rhizome (with a frond or growth bud) using a sharp knife or shovel. The Autumn Fern is a little more difficult, since it has a woody crown. Slice off a portion, with a frond(s) and some healthy roots with a knife or shovel. Pot the divisions in a moisture retentive potting mix and keep moist, in total shade, until they appear to be growing normally. The big box stores near me stock both of these during the growing season and have seen small pots there for $3-4. There is an Autumn Fern cultivar 'Brilliance',now available, that retains the bronze color well into the late spring-early summer. Have seen those at the box stores, also. Rb

scotjute, Many look like that I don't know exactly what it is, I assume it is just weepy foliage. I haven't looked for cones, you gotta be careful about the snakes- go out when it is cold! Even then I've seen snakes sunning when it was in the 50's, They're pretty slow then however. This is a city park on a bayou leading into Cross Lake in Shreveport. Nice to look at but I don't want to be right on the water. I will go look for some cones and take a pic of the yellow flowers sometime today.

My sister has had August Moon hosta for many years and, although they are 3 feet across, at least, they are not much more than 2 feet tall. I think it will be a lovely combination.
