I stumbled across this when I was trying to get some guidelines on the exact same thing. Don't get discouraged by some of these comments! I am doing the same thing as you, although for a different reason. My son gets an allowance, and he also has "non-paid" household chores that he *must do* regardless because he is part of the family. However, he is only 13, and recently was not careful and left his cell phone somewhere that the dog could get to it. Consequently, the phone is destroyed. I am not going to replace the phone, but I would like to give him the opportunity to earn money and replace the phone himself. He is only 13 so can't go out and get a job. He could certainly do odd jobs around the neighborhood - snow shoveling, dog walking, etc. - or sell old toys/clothes on Craig's List, and I will certainly encourage those ideas, but it will help him (and me) if I give him some other chances to earn some cash. I have made a list of extra "paid" chores he can do that I will pay him for. Steam clean the carpets, help clean out the back room of the basement, help organize items for charity, and the like. The only useful suggestion you received was paying minimum wage, although that could easily be taken advantage of. So we are no closer to an answer, I guess!!

I'm with Cathy--I thought it was illegal to sell them unless you were properly certified (is that the right word?). You may want to check, to be on the safe side. No point in having to pay all your day's profits and then some in fines.

Back in the 80's when grew it I was getting $27 a bussel at the farmers market they were bidding on it at the scales before i got the truck parked. When the price dropped to $15 a Bushel I started looking elsewhere for a buyer I found a Restaurant that would give $20 a Bushel that was 1's & 2's grade they would buy all could produce. They would freeze it. I grew one acre Early planted on good Friday, then planted a second acre for late crop. It yeilded about $ 70 K that year but its hard work. Okra requires Constant Everyday Management leave enough room between the rows to get your tiller through use Underground Soaker hose Irrigation. Another thing that really helped was I grew it under high Voltage Power Lines. I would run between 15- 25 bushels a day production rate per day. According how much I watered it. Be sure wear long sleeves to protect your arms from sun and a big hat. Be Reminded its allot of work everyday. 7 days a week And Constant Magagement to get those kinds of yeilds. Half way through the season Campels Soup Company wanted to set up a contract but I was already committed. The Market is there don't undersale yourselfs.
