So how did your Christmas turn out? Was Santa Good?
Comments (22)Santa was so good, I/we feel a little guilty. MIL buys us literally a carload of gifts. Most of the stuff is wonderful and we are appreciative, but there are a couple of things we don't know where we are going to put them, and they're really not our style. They're from ebay, so they're really not returnable. We have asked her to please cut back, but that hasn't worked. She buys items throughout the year. OTOH, new fun things: Digital remote meat thermometer. I opened it early so we could grill the tenderloin. Yes, I asked for a new meat thermometer, LOL. Some iPhone accessories: a cassette adapter so I can broadcast through the speakers in my older Mustang and listen to the Sirius. His friend has this, and it works really well. It's called iDeck. It's also a hands-free phone device, so very useful. He also got me an armband so I can use it for exercise. The "big" gift was a Kitchenaid mixer in Ice color. It was between the Ice and Cobalt blues, but Ice seems to be the better color. He is interested in using the meat grinder and sausage stuffer, so it's more of a gift for us than for me alone. I don't mind getting kitchen/cooking related things for Christmas since I enjoy cooking. MIL got me the new Bobby Flay cookbook, and someone on the kitchens forum said to try the carmelized onion pizza. I can make the dough in the new mixer....See MoreSo I picked out the paint colors and NOW---
Comments (21)If you do decide to change colors, I just thought I'd put in a suggestion to look at the Benjamin Moore Historic Collection of paints. There are some lovely tried and true colors there and some neutrals that would go with about any color scheme. If I'd gone that route in my remodel instead of just looking at the whole color spectrum it would've simplified my task amazingly and I'd probably be happier with the results. More choice is not always a good thing. I think the color decks are great from when you've got everything else all picked out and are looking for that perfect color to tie it together--otherwise a much narrower tried and true palate is much easier to work with....See Morecelticmoon.......how did your cabinets turn out?
Comments (3)Sorry, I haven't been back here so didn't know about your question until someone emailed me. Thanks for your interest. I'm a little ashamed to say progress is slow. But I do have my formula clear: Rough sand, darken with Expresso water base gel stain, then couple coats of Java gel. Top with clear gel. All General finish products. No stripping and no brushwork. They will be very, very nice I think. Got derailed onto some other things and haven't made a lot of progress, but the method is set. Here's a picture of a door, hardware, paint, flooring etc. Lot going on here!!...See MoreTurning Desk Area into Bar..Thoughts
Comments (5)Paintergirl-Yes, that is what I meant above..I probably wasn't clear. We are going to remove the center drawer entirely and put the beverage cooler in that space. It just needs to be raised 4", which is how I came to think of the idea to just raise it up with a piece of decorative lumber, basically. Adding on a 2X4 to the top of it would give me the additional 4 inches. Then I would just add on a piece of decorative painted molding, so it would just look like a strip of molding underneath the counter overhang. Florantha--There is a whole host of things I would love to do to my kichen, if only my budget would allow! lol We are trying to give the kitchen a desperately needed cosmetic upgrade (for our life and for resale purposes down the line) with a very tight budget. I am planning on using the uppers as storage & display, and then just putting a 33" beverage center in the current open space. I will continue to display my cookbooks there. This space is across from the eat in area in our kitchen, close to the door of the dining room...far away from the sink. I like the idea of putting a coffee maker there too. We do entertain on a regular basis, so I was thinking this would be a great area to have drinks available and some nibbles. Here is a photo where you can better see the overall layout better. All functional kitchen space is behind me. The desk area is barely visible on left, door to dining room is on left, door to family room straight ahead. I've seen lots of beverage centers in kitchens, but nothing with the tricked out moulding like I'm planning to do. Which is what I was wondering if it would look bad....See MoreRebecca C
