LL, hope everything is well with your husband! I was wondering why you didn't show up yesterday for the tea. Last weekend, I went through everything in the home office. I shredded a lot of old papers, and packed the rest into the moving boxes. Husband went through everything in the basement, and he almost finished packing the tools, games, electronics, books, etc. The boxes are piled up in the garage and there's not much room left to walk around. We will have to finish packing everything (except our clothes and bedding) by Friday evening. We still need to go through all the random things that have been sitting in the garage. Then we need to pack the kitchen and two bedrooms. Hope we will make it! Have a great Thanksgiving, everyone!

Thanks, annkh and gr8day! gr8day, you reminded me that my KD suggested putting the towels with my pot holders. I have my potholders in a 12" drawer, which is only 6" interior width (ridiculous amount of real estate eaten up by face frame) so they should be able to share space with the towels since I'll have 2.5x as much drawer space. It will also make it eas1er on hubby to remember that all linens go together. He doesn't learn new routines easily. ;-) (love the apron!) Are those drawers a 6-6-6-12 set-up? annkh, that's where we have our Tupperware now. It's actually very convenient to have it near the fridge. We transfer leftovers from serving bowls or plates to Tupperware at the island, put the containers in the fridge and then put the dirty dishes in the DW, which will be right across the island, next to the fridge after we remodel. The small appliance spot above the oven will be for seldom used appliances and only if I run out of room elsewhere. But, yeah, I'm with you on keeping lightweight items up high since I'm vertically challenged, too. I keep a step stool in the walk-in pantry. I also have a chronic inner ear disease so I can be a bit wobbly on my pins, as they say across the pond, at times. Keeping things down low is a good thing for me. Here's a pic of my pantry: It's small but mighty. ;-) And I'll have even more room in it for food once I move the stand mixer, bread maker and electric fry pan out of it! First, don't put things away that you don't use. Next, don't put things away in a place just because you had it there before - it's time to start fresh. As others have said, start with the things you use the most, in a designated area: cooking utensils, spices, potholders near the range; knives, cutting boards and colanders near the sink; bags, wraps and storage containers near the cleanup area. Will you leave small appliances (toaster, blender, coffee maker) out on the counter, or do you want them put away after use? If you want them put away, make sure the storage spot is VERY convenient, or it will be easier to leave them out. Finally, keep in mind that things CAN move again! If you find that your storage plan isn't working for the way you use the kitchen, don't be afraid to try something else.

Specific thoughts: - Not gonna lie -- it's 11 minutes of your life that you'll never get back, and it could've been 5 minutes. We didn't need to see her assemble the sliding shelves. Her finished product, though, is great! - In her case, her big problem was that the garbage disposal was "front and center" hogging all the space. I can only assume this is true for all corner sinks? She worked around it well, but it seems to me that she could've added a storage bucket BEHIND the garbage disposal; this could've been for unopened cleaners (I can't be the only person who falls for the B3GOFs). - Key to her project are two sets of sliding shelves -- they seem to be a great fit for her project. If I were her, I would've used one of the sliding shelves for the trash bags, which -- as she says -- are a constant-use item. - She keeps all kind of cleaners under her sink. Personally, I would've kept wood cleaner, etc. elsewhere. - I like the grocery-bag container and how she attached it on an edge. - If I were her, I would've put some hooks on the back of the doors for the rubber gloves and scrubber.
