Comments (5)If you do have fungus gnats, a mosquito dunk, soaked overnight in a gallon of water, should help. I can't remember where I first saw that remedy for fungus gnats, but it helped me tremendously. I think it kills the gnat larva, if I'm not mistaken. You can find the mosquito dunks at Lowes, Walmart, or just about any garden center. You soak one overnight in a gallon of water, and use the water to soak the soil around your plants where you are having the gnat problem. During the summer months, I keep a plastic gallon-sized watering can filled with water and a mosquito dunk, just in case. HTH~ Renee...See More***** Flying Bug Prevention *****
Comments (3)I have also managed my fruit fly problem with similar techniques - I do not have drainage holes (nor does my bed get wet enough to need them). and I cover the top of the bin with a fitted crib sheet tied in a knot at the corner to keep it tight, then I put the lid back on. No more flies! Before I put the crib sheet over the bin I put in a jar with some orange juice. Now, no flies at all! Yay! I love my bin!!! :) oh, and I stopped adding banannas to the bin, just in case. I love my worms so much I shred the big pieces for them. :)...See MoreHelp - what is this flying bug and is this...poop?
Comments (3)I use organic neem oil mixed with castile soap to spray my plants and that gets rid of bugs like aphids, gnats and whiteflies plus thrips. You have to get the concentration right though. I spray my entire yard cuz I have a huge garden and mix a teaspoon of soap with 50ml of the neem oil and mix it all up in 15 litres of water in one of those huge backpack sprayer thingies. I'm thinking a good concentration for you would be a few drops of soap and like a teaspoon of neem oil then top up your spray bottle with clean water. Try that out. The poop looks like caterpillar poop to me so you should examine your pots for them. As for the insect, it;s not really clear but that looks like a thrip to me. The neem solution should get rid of it. Good luck!...See MoreFlying Bugs in my kitchen
Comments (4)You can use Google Images to search for something that looks like it and get an ID. Search for "Small flying insects" and maybe add "in house" and then click Images. Once you ID it, google the name and learn more about where it lives, what it eats and how to get rid of it. It does not look like a grain eating moth or a flea or a fungus gnat or mosquito....See More- 6 years ago
