The Aloe is just my guess after Bretons post about their new Aloes. But I honestly have no idea what it is and it's not in the best condition, there's a leaf that was obviously broken off and it's very wobbly but hopefully I can save it!

Plants that are so clearly & specifically IDed really shouldn't need our confirmation. Why do you need our confirmation?

Have you tried looking any of them up yourself for that same confirmation? Easily accomplished by simply Googling the given ID & comparing pix.

This is encountered quite a bit in the commercial trade with the generic names. The aloe looks to be ferox(or fierce because it's armored) or marlothii. Either way could become good specimens.

Karen, this is exactly why I made this post, even after googling pictures of all three types of Aloe suggested they look very similar and I actually still have no idea at this moment which it is.

As for the others, it's not unheard of for plants to be labeled incorrectly and since I was making a post already I didn't see the harm in confining the IDs.

I think as of right now I'm going to have to wait for the poor plant to recover and see it's growth habits to confirm an ID, thanks for the suggestions!

If you want to confirm, you could look on the Altman Plant website, that's the supplier. I purchased some succulents at my local hardware store and they were in Altman pots, but with no labels, so I just went onto their website and identified them that way :)

Even the suppliers can get it wrong though!

According to the Altman website, one of my Aloes that I was trying to identify is an Aloe 'Christmas Sleigh' and the one from this post isn't listed. Thanks for the tip though!

I bought same aloe. The name is Aloe Marlothii. This name I found after doing search. Hope this helps.

Since it wasn't mentioned on the thread, I couldn't know that you DID look them up & try to confirm IDs. So I apologize for assuming you hadn't looked.

But I WILL say it's not so common for those kinds of labels to be wrong (glued on, detailed ones like that). Much more common is the no-ID at all or the removable plastic tags which can get switched in ways these can't.

Jethro, I just haven't found that to be the case personally & I've been at it at least 15 yrs. on here & 20 yrs. in local plants societies & frequently a few BBS.

Came back to say they're nice & healthy looking. Don't worry that Aloe's bottom leaf broke off, looks like no problem.

I especially like the P afra, so full & lush w/ so much white, I'm partial to variegates like that. Soooo great haul, good for you!

Thomas, thats Aloe aculeata. They look similar when young but quite different when mature. (Marlothii is a tree) A. aculeata can be identified by white thorn bases, while marlothii has more black or blue thorn bases.
