Hoping someone can help with this Rose Question!
Comments (45)Brandy--(my sisters name is Brandy btw!) I haven't yet heard back from the previous owner but I checked my aol email and it shows she hasn't yet read the email. I very well may have an old email that she does't check anymore. I could go to her new ranch, its just a ways up from me towards the next town but I didn't want to just show up on her porch uninvited :) I'll be able to get a hold of her eventually, and will make sure I do so before my husband needs to start moving things for the renovation/remodel of our farmhouse. Jeri (from this board) has been in touch with me and she is wanting to come out sometime in the next few months to check some of the rose bushes we have here. I sent her a TON of pictures on email, poor thing! She's been very friendly and helpful. I haven't been able to answer this post because I've been camping at the beach with my kiddos and although I had access to internet I tried very hard to just sit back and enjoy the quiet time with my kids :) Yes, I'm familiar with the Mojave desert, we camp there all the time during the cooler months (desert camping is usually from about Oct-April for us!) We take the dirtbikes out to California City in the winter and we spend the summers at the lakes or the beach. I'll keep everyone updated as I find out information. Jeri gave me some possible names of the other roses we have, I have no idea if they are anything special (my gut says they aren't but I dont know a THING about roses LOL) but she says she saw enough that she still thinks its worth a trip out to our ranch to check them out. So I'll be in contact with her about that. Thanks for everyones interest! Sammy--I wll have to check out the Dainty Bess, the Natalie Bloxham, Arcola Gardens and Seil roses to see their resemblance to mine. I'm still not sure anyone (or even Jeri?) is convinced its a Kathleen but she sent me a picture of the Rancho Camulous Kathleen out here near where I live and it does look eerily similar. So...we'll see! Tam...See MoreDefinitely leaving Florida
Comments (38)I've lived in most of the main parts of America and think that the economics of Florida are not great, unless you are wealthy. There is great deal of unfairness in the property taxes - go to the Florida state web site and the property assment. page and i saw a huge disparage in my community. I live in a gated community where all the houses look alike. The values of the houses are the same (these are very cookie cutter - unfortunately : )... but the property taxes are different; Even if they are purchased in the same year... very strange... and it's not the homestead exemptn either. (That's another problem - many snowbirds live in my community, like my neighbor who is only here 4 weeks/year and yet she's claimed this as a primary residence...) This is typical of Florida, esp. South Fla - there are a lot of exemptions being offered - and it's very unfair... Plus, Florida's pay is dismal - opportunities are low - 10 years ago, there were tons and tons of opportunity, and now, I've noticed more and more people settling for low-paying jobs just so they can continue working. Education is not valued here as much as in other parts of the country and so on........See MoreDoes the Florida Forum Seem a bit 'Dead' to you lately?
Comments (41)Good Morning Everyone!!!! I have missed all of you as well. Often, I would check to see how each of you were doing, and I enjoyed gardening through your daily posts. My Health made life a bit challenging. Kidneys were close to shutting down 3 times- gall bladder inflamed, had to be removed, before surgery, i could not even think of eating anything,SO>>my beloved made me his favorite treat for all sick people. Soft boiled eggs. From this i managed to get a bout of salmonella, with 10 days in the hospital.Fell again, tore my rotator cuff. Surgery for that, 6 weeks of no movement, 6 weeks of therapy, only to find out, the repair failed. Of course, during this time i used my left arm for everything, resulting in tearing the left rotator cuff. Waiting for surgery, as soon as my kidneys say OK. The big addition to our home turned out to be a trip to hell and back, a dozen times. From the usual small problems, to no proper foundation to no roof tie down, Major problems everywhere. The new roof, which cost in excess of 80,000., has to be replaced, since the underlayment was installed incorrectly. As you see, we had rather a "wish i could forget" kind of a year. Hopefully, next year will be a lot better. If i offended anyone with my dribble, I am sorry in advance. Cindeea, I hope all your proceedures will go perfectly well, and you will have a comfortable, painfree new year ahead of you. Comments (67)Finally got some much needed rain, yay!!! 1.5"...its a start! I've just about given up growing tomatoes here...they start out so healthy and lush and within a few weeks after fruits set the disease sets in, the leaves start yellowing then browning...I've tried pots and inground. I don't dare even try to grow them in late spring or summer, too hot and the flowers don't set. I'm doomed to fail....See More- 9 years ago
