Comments (24)Breton - I'll see if seed suppliers here carry pots too, thanks for the tip. I bought those dollar store pots, but didn't take the plunge in using them yet either. Aztcqn - I've found the same, none of my three cymbiformis types go dormant either in the heat. They seem to pup rather well, so I'm sure yours will be more than back on track soon. Last fall I bought one nice ceramic bonsai pot that I haven't dared to use yet. It's a little shallow like yours, but not quite as wide. Once the weather gets nice enough outside, I'll definitely fill it up and experience the watering-difference. Those two emelyae x herbacea have a pretty cool pattern! Howard - Definitely will keep you in mind if my 'Crystal Ball' ever offsets. =) Wish I knew how old the STC reference 'Maruko' plant is. Right now it seems like quite some time away. At least I can see the distinctive leaf shape taking form though. 'Murasaki' appears quite dark unless light hits it at the right angle. It appears quite green inside the leaves, but on the outside the colour is more purplish. From what I've seen online, this is not unusual when they are small? Is this your observation as well? Really hoping by the end of spring it will start looking nice and interesting....See MoreFive months car free
Comments (18)There is no public transportation here. But there are several grocery stores within a couple miles, I can bicycle most places in town. I am more physically fit now than I was when I had my car. There are times I almost feel like an ambassador for the no-car life. People stop and talk to me all the time when I ride my tricycle, the Schwinn Meridian. I get a lot of conversations at Walmart when I'm out in the parking lot loading groceries from my shopping buggy into the Meridian's basket (I have attached a pair of bicycle panniers to the back of the basket so I have a lot of carrying capacity). Wherever they might be, Boomers like me are aging, and at some point may have to give up driving. On the plus side, there are self driving cars in the horizon, and Uber, and in some places online grocery ordering and even (not in my town) delivery. On the minus side, towns and cities are experiencing budget shortfalls and initiating new public transportation may not be in the budget for some of them. Moving into a large city already equipped with public transportation is an option, but there are tradeoffs, sometimes a big city may have significantly higher crime rates. My current choice is not for everyone, but it is working out well for me for now. Life is all about making choices, and all about change....See MoreUpdate :) Babies are 3 months old Today!
Comments (5)Yes I have them in full sun and I have been feeding with Tapin root once a month and also I water with my earthworm tea :) and on very hot sunny days, all my Adeniums get misted with the earthworm tea (I've been doing the tea for 2 years now and my plants love it). I wish I could get rid of these spidermites quicker, but I am conquering them :) Those Plumeria cuttings/plants are looking great. I have the 2 Plumerias that I rooted right away (one was the white one...it now has an inflo) and they are growing well. Plus most of the others I let dry for 3 weeks, seems to be all rooting/growing leaves, except for one (it was a cutting from my Hawaiian Plumeria), but I will try again:) The mother of the white one is growing well and is sprouting leaves on all the 7 stems, but not putting out new growth where I took the cutting from. I will be ready to send you a cutting of the white one, but how short is too short for a cutting? The longest of the 7 stems is right at 6", would that be a long enough cutting? I usually cut at around 7" or so, but I can cut it and send it if you think that's good. They have been well away from my greenhouse (where the spidermites are), but maybe once you receive the Plumeria cutting and the small Bromeliads, you might want to keep them away from your plants for a while....just in case! Happy Gardening, Jeannie :)...See More- 9 years ago
