Painted wainscoting (Board and Batten style) with stained trim?

My new lake house is a blank slate with a couple of exceptions: Brown Berber carpet and oak stained trim. Both must stay for now. I want to put light/white painted board and batten walls in this long hallway and I'm wondering how it will look with the stained floor and door trim? Would love to hear your feedback?

I have an older home with V-groove wainscoting and board-and-batten paneling, and when I've painted have always painted them the same color as the baseboards and other trim. I think it would be really awkward to try and transition from stained baseboard and door casing to painted paneling.

Maybe someone else can come up with some encouraging inspiration pics.

I'll be honest and say that I looked online for doors and hardware like yours with board and batten OR ship lap, and couldn't find any. If you were able to change the doors to something with panels, and the doorknobs, and add flat wider painted trim around the doors, it would make more of a cohesive look. I personally wouldn't do it.

Use the same sheen as the trim for the board and batten, so semi-gloss. For the walls if you don't like flat then then switch to eggshell or satin.

All your trim needs to be considered when doing a project like this -- base, casing, window stool and apron. I prefer to have a reveal, or small setback where one component meets another, so in your case, I would hold the stiles and rails forming the paneling back (they would be thinner) from the face of the window casing. This shows a 1/8" step where the base meets the door casing, and a 1/4" step where the paneling stile meets the door casing.

I would consider the boards and wall they surround as part of the trim and paint to match in a satin or semi gloss trim paint. Consider doing a test on the wall to see how paint will cover. And I agree about redoing the vertical pieces. I'm curious about the reason they were spaced like they are.

I would not paint all that brick, which looks great. Have you considered using a charcoal gray for all the siding, including the new portion? It would look great with your roof, and the darker color would minimize the siding. Then paint the door khaki or white.

I was afraid you'd say that. Paining the trim/doors is out of the question right now. And plain painted walls are soooo boring. Do you have any other ideas? I like the thought of being able to put a couple of hooks on the wall.

Wallpaper? Maps of the area? Photos or some prints you like? You can still put hooks on the wall.

I agree it will look strange. New paint maybe and art? Wallpaper.
