Comments (12)Yacht, I was trying to give OA a challenge, not a heart attack. LOL. She's liable to try all those tables you listed! I think Make Up Your Own Holiday would be a hoot for tablesetting ideas. Yep, Luvs, on here EVERY day is a Holiday for sure. JayBird, I'm sure you're right, when they said "Transfer" day, they must have meant TransferWARE! At least it sounds good to me. ;o) Luvs, you have a great time planned for the next few days with all the lunches and shopping neat places. AND getting to see OA in person! I'm being attacked by that darn Greenie Monster again. H E L P !!!!!!! hugs, Karen...See MoreLOOKING for: Spice cake - good old fashioned...
Comments (14)Zolablue, just found this recipe in a old "Farm Journal's Country Cookbook" 1959 Edition. Spice Cake (Women say it's a keeper; men beg to eat it right away) 1 cup milk 1/2 cup lard ...you could use shortening or oil I imagine. 1 tsp. vanilla 2 1/4 cups cake flour 1 tbs. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 1/4 cups sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. allspice 1/2 tsp. cloves 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 2 eggs, unbeaten Whip 2 tbs. milk with lard and vanilla; cream until light (2 min. at med. speed). Add sifted dry ingredients to lard mixture with 2/3 milk. Beat until smooth (2 min. at med. speed). Add remaining milk and eggs. Beat until smooth, about 2 minutes. Pour into 2 greased 8" layer pans. Bake in moderate oven (375) for 35 minutes. Cool and frost with Mocha Frosting. Mocha Frosting- 1/2 cup butter 1 egg yolk.. could use egg beaters for safety 2 tbs. strong coffee 2 squares unsweetened chocolate 2 1/2 cups confectioners sugar Cream butter, add egg yolk, coffee, & melteed chocolate. Mix well, gradually adding sugar. Blend until smooth. Makes enough for 2 (8") layers....See MoreSince you guys were so much help before...
Comments (4)Oil is NOT really better anymore. PLUS...in light/white-ish colors, Alkyds WILL yellow/amber a bit. Moreso in northern climes where it's darker longer at night. Lack of UV light causes this. There's just no way of altering it. Therefore, I'd use a top-notch Latex paint, or the newer Waterborne Alkyds, which typically level real nice...assuming proper prep, application tools/methods, etc. FPE's ECO-series paint, or the Eurolux Satin or Gloss for ultimate look. NOT kidding on this! Faron...See MoreSince you are all about cooking. Great gift for a bread baker?
Comments (25)Just an update. My neighbor’s husband was playing golf in the yard yesterday, so I handed him my big, heavy bag. It had the some of the items suggested like the dough hook, flour wand and so on. Also some artisan bread flour to try out. Golf balls for the husband of the brand recommended in another thread. She came over a couple of hours later with a still warm Dakota bread and turtles for my husband. Asked if I was hacking into her emails because I had also included the “proof basket” or what it is called recommended here. Said she had it in her online shopping cart before but didn’t get it yet. She said she normally waits until Christmas to open ours since it’s her favorite, but because it was kind of heavy and her husband was like “what did she do now?”, they did open it. While she was here, she also asked my daughter about what her favorite rolls are. Met me at the hedge today to deliver a dozen warm ones. She said she is also going to try baking a chocolate almond torte to be ready when our family comes over for Christmas. (Said it’s a Rich one to serve twelve, so she wants it to be fresh). Gosh, I love my neighbor. Thank you so much for helping me making her happy. As for my family, we better take some long walks or something....See MoreFunkyart
