Yes I agree a lot of pumps would not work. I think the OP has a little more choice with this particular dress though because although a boho style it's not a very very large print and it doesn't have big ruffles or huge contrasts of any kind.

Oh sure.. it's a versatile style and doesn't scream boho. I didn't mean to say a pump wouldn't work. I just thought the tie wedge seemed to fit the vibe very well. I also think a chunky heel works-- both for walking and for the style.

ETA - I have had a fair number of nine west shoes over the years. There's a store near here so it was my "go to" when I need something last minute and couldn't stomach the malls. I often find a shoe that's perfect for a given outfit-- and often at a great price. But I don't consider these long lasting shoes. Maybe a season or two. Also, I am frustrated to say that a lot of their shoes are now synthetic.

My favorite look for that dress is a strappy sandal but that wouldn't be very practical for the time of year.

I love the idea of tall blue suede boots for the wedding. That would be a great look with that dress, which is very cute btw. Germany will be too cold to walk outside in any of those sandals!

I vote for boots and tights too. A saddle color boot would look nice with navy.

I was definitely thinking of boots and tights. But now to find the right boot...that I will ever wear again. Such an investment! I love the last sandal that Jterri posted, but it just won't work for the weather/temps. Also, the dress has not arrived yet, so I'm not sure where the hem will fall...the short sleeve version I have is just above the knee so I think this will be similar. Thanks for all the input!

Having lived in Germany and knowing how November can be very cold and/or wet, I think this shoe from Macy's would look good with the dress, as well as help keep your feet warm and appear to be comfortable to walk in.

I would do a navy suede. It should be somewhat dressy as the dress itself is very casual. By pairing it with boots or low heeled pumps, it bumps it down. I would not do a sandal as you say it will be cool.

I think Funky is on the right track. You don't need a heel, but pointy if possible.

I also like the look of nude shoes, but not with this dress and not in November.

I don't know anything about weddings in Germany, but for the US this dress would be far too casual. Take a look at the Eileen Fisher dress on Garnet Hill. It is v-neck, 3/4 sleeves and very flattering. I bought it first in black for travel - it is a medium weight jersey so it packed like a dream. I liked it so well I bought a 2nd in midnight blue. It's a great dress that can be dressed up or down and is comfortable. As for your shoes, yes boots will be warmer. I would probably get flat boots as they are more versatile and will be easier to walk in.

It's not impossible but darn tooting close to impossible to find a shoe for your pretty but casual boho dress that is suitable for a wedding in late fall/winter. There is such a thin line between the finding something for the style but dressy enough but not clashy with the casualness.

Since you don't dress up often the linked dresses are good because they will stay in style for a very long time. You will have a dress on hand for funerals, weddings or holiday events. All you will have to do is change it up with a scarf or necklace. And, there are eight billion choices of closed toed shoes, peek shoes or sandals you could wear with.

The boho dress would be great for birthday parties, baby showers, bridal showers and dinners out. So, you will have every event outfit covered with three dresses and will have no stress thinking of what to wear for the next shindig.

You are special and deserve three dresses lol.

I am very surprised that you all think this dress in a crepe viscose and lined is somehow less appropriate than a jersey dress that's basically a dressy tshirt line. Considering the wedding involves what the OP described as a visit to the registry and then pastries and coffee, I just don't see that it's any less appropriate... and she's already ordered it.

Also, she's said she has a black cocktail dress for the evening dinner.

I think the dress is very pretty and probably is nicer made but it comes off as casual due to the cut and pattern. And this is coming from me who is Very casual. Plus, I think its going to be so tricky finding the right shoe. The dress ordered can be worn for so many things like birthdays, showers and such so I doubt it will go to waste. It is much easier to shoe and dress up a solid color classic cut.

I am a bit unsure about how formal/casual this will be. My brother is a source of zero information other than dates and times. I do not know his fiance well enough to ask for her help. In past visits to Germany I have found the people there to be more formal in general (this is Munich), but this seems to me like a relatively informal (and small) event. I guess I can just be the crass American who does not know the proper ettiquette....though I do care. Quite frustrating! I will know better once I have the dress in hand to see how it is in real life. Since I will also bring my black cocktail dress, I can ask Anke (fiance) in person which would be more appropriate. I don't want to put her in the position of seeming to dictate purchases. Thanks for the help and opinions!

jmck_nc. You did mention the black cocktail dress in your original post as a possibility for the later dinner event and the more casual navy paisley dress for the coffee and pastry immediately after the wedding at the registry (Justice of the Peace or courthouse, I'm guessing) . Since you anticipate some walking from the wedding to the coffee/pastry reception, I'd go for comfort and warmth in shoes, IF you like the dress once it arrives.

Hi Jb.. it's on nine west and amazon for sure-- though there are limited sizes. On amazon, the natural is 39.. and the blue is 79. On Ninewest the blue and light pink are both 39 with 30% off. Hope they have your size.. they didn't have mine.

Back to the drawing board. The dress is much too casual (you were right) because the print is "fuzzy". Due to the type of fabric it is not a clear print and looks like flannel cloth from a distance. Cute dress for casual situations but won't work for my needs. It's going back. I might have to brave an actual store.

I bought a navy dress to wear to a friend's December wedding. I found navy blue suede shoes to wear similar to the ones Funkyart posted but with a slightly higher heel. Looked fab. I also have a pair of suede boots, mine are red, and they are great for winter dress up if I know I'm going to have to we walking a ways in and out. But not really needed if you're just going to get out of the car and walk into the wedding or party venue. Worst comes to worst you can wear boots and then check them with your coat for the party. Bring along a tote with your rough weather supplies including an umbrella!

Note: blue suede boots that are dressy are hard to come by. I know because I wanted to get a navy pair after getting and loving my red ones so much. Fake suede is not worth a darn, will get nicked or torn too easily. Grey or taupe might be OK but navy would be the stunning option.

Further note: Go for a dress with some grey or black in the print if you can find one and the color looks good on you. Black real suede dress boots (or shoes for that matter) are much easier to find. Or just get these boots and find a dress to go with them. I wear mine with grey or black dresses with dabs of other colors in them, including red. Red or burgundy, black, grey together or even throw in some cream, great winter outfit colors.

jmck, that is often the problem with online shopping. Sometimes, the photographer knows the shortcomings of a particular item and will have the model pose in such a way to camouflage it.

Sometimes color is so far off too.

For dressy dresses, it is often better to actually go shopping.
