Light depends on code, or what fan will allow. I have noticed that the light's for ceileng fans have been lowered so older fans with lights support more wattage. Im not sure the reason, but its something across all US states. I got one of the Emerson fans for great room in a rental unit I have and it is fantastic. I got lights that pointed down, for max lighting. Loved it so much, that I went and got the same fan, for my sunroom. I did not add the light fixture to the fan for sunroom, plenty of light. The fan's I got are for larger rooms,you might want a smaller base motor for the bedroom. I would suggest you look at local lighting store. FYI my fans hardwire in for power, but also have a wireless remote feature all controls on remote unit installed in wall switch and hand held remote optional. Note these fans are custom, you pick all the features, finish color, blades, light fixtures, wall control panels etc. I picked Emerson due to ratings on fan motor reliablity it is the main reason to buy a fan so motor working quiet and efficient was my primary focus, looks were last. Hi Jane..., Sheen choice is such a subjective thing obviously. Some like a "glow" on the walls from nightstand lamps, etc., & others' don't. Some feel Flat finishes look rich, but cleanability drops off. Overall, the Eggshell SHEEN (not color) seems the most popular in our store. Consider your cleaning-styles/frequency too. If you're a fussy cleaner, Flat might not be for you; UNLESS you use a Premium-flat like C2 or ACE'S Sensations flat with Scotchguard-VERY cleanable. Don't be scared to "go deep" with color, if only on an accent wall. Deeper colors in Bedrooms can feel very cozy & warm...kind of the way a Bedroom should be! Be aware though, some dark colors need a dark primer under them. TWO topcoats still needed though!! (Of course, big color changes usually lead to new drapes, etc., etc.,.... ;-) Faron

I think you may be over-thinking things. Pick a stain color you like in a store and ask to also see it in natural light. Then proceed from there. Make sure you bring a door sample when you shop for a counter. This isn't brain surgery and lights can make it look better or worse, but not by huge margins.

I'd say definitely flat everywhere. Texture is icky, IMHO. (I was so happy to get rid of textured ceilings in the remodel!!). I am sure plaster is *much* more expensive than drywall. A good drywall crew (of just a few guys) can drywall a good size house in a few days. Plaster is much more of an art and, presumably, much more time intensive and expensive. That said, plaster is lovely. My first house was a 1920 Craftsman, and I adored the plaster. It was banged up, and it was gorgeous. If cost were no object, I'm sure I'd love plaster walls. Just be sure to see samples of work to be sure they know what they are doing!
