Solution for hop tree leaves drying out!

I am getting Giant Swallowtail eggs on my hop tree, but the leaves were drying out really fast, like in less than 24 hours. (I snip the stem with 3 leaves and put in a floral water tube.) Transferring the hatchlings onto fresh was usually not successful. Overall my Giants are much more finicky and sensitive when they are
tiny... not like my BSTs who are fine being picked up and moved.

I tried something and it works great! I fill the water tube with very hot water, cut the stem at an angle, and they are staying fresh! The hot water helps open their stems so they take the water up better/faster/more of it. At least that's my assumption.

The other problem I had was the tiny babies would walk down the stem in search of fresh food and the hole in the top of the water tube was big enough where they walked right through the opening.... and drowned :( :( :( I've solved that by using smaller tubes with smaller openings, and stuffing the opening with extra pieces of stem so they can't get by.
