Comments (3)Thanks, Jill. As to the "clickable link", I wondered the same thing, and I think that if you go at least to the bottom of the Preview you have the option of adding the link there before you Submit.....I could have it wrong, but I think that will solve your (and my previous) issue. Comments (13)Thank you, Madri for that very complete explanation. Maybe I will try one or two for fall planting which I know are sure to be hardy. The spinossima 'Falkland' looks interesting. Palatine says it does repeat, HMF says no repeat. Maybe there is an occasional late bloom. Kentucky Rose, sorry about the delayed reply to your question. I am not currently able to photograph, a matter of learning how to use a new camera--old dogs and new tech, you know. I bought NDM from eurodesert the summer it closed. I concentrated on roses of Matthias Tantau, Jr., those had to be shipped across the country in hot summer. Cliff and his helpers did a marvelous job of packing the roses, but he was shipping out of a local PO, and I rather suspect the personnel there had not counted on having to work very hard over the hot summer. So, some did not survive, but my NDM has survived the trip across country and cold winters here. The "floribunda" which I planted next to it turned out to be the rambler 'Dupontii'--lovely rose which I am happy to have--so NDM was shaded but still bloomed. I moved it last spring to what turned out to be another shaded spot, where it is blooming now despite competition from morning glories and a cobea vine. My plant is grafted, probably onto R. laxa, but I imagine a plant on multiflora would do as well. In my yard, NDM has everything I like in a rose except fragrance. I don't understand why it fell out of commerce in North America. I have been ordering from Palatine for several years. I am as impressed as you by their excellent plants....See MoreI received a Tantau rose catalogue.... They are so many gorgeous roses
Comments (14)Dianela, I was told years ago by the owner of Palatine that Tantau had no agent here in the US, so they couldn't sell their line of roses here. The older, off patent roses, have been sold for decades in the US. It's the newer ones that are affected. By the term "agent", they must have meant a distributor, plus a US grower would be needed. Before Palatine, Hortico sold Augusta Luise (that is the original spelling, and AL's name is trademarked, but she is not patented, I guess) for a couple of years, and another great rose, which I grow and got from Hortico, called Bernstein-Rose. I would say that Tantau's marketing strategy is worse than David Austin's (when they do the mysterious discontinuation of Evelyn that seems to come and go). I must be on a permanent soapbox when it comes to Tantau, and it's getting worse. Why would a company, well established, that could make a fortune over here, not give it a try? Plus, think of the money they are losing by sending all of us those beautiful catalogs. Diane...See MorePalatine rose list
Comments (179)Thank you. Sorry I did not properly separate my thoughts about patents vs trademarks. I mentioned "Askot" because in Help Me Find it's listed with a copyright symbol. On Palatine's website Ascot has a TM symbol. I am trying to find out why Long Ago Roses, Angel Gardens, Freedom Gardens, or Palatine in Canada have to pay royalties (other than it's the right thing to do). Thus why I specified I have not yet researched Ascot/Askot/TAN01757 in Canada, yet. US Patents are only good in the USA: https://www.uspto.gov/ip-policy/ipr-toolkits European Patents are only good in the "Contracting States": https://www.uspto.gov/learning-and-resources/pursuing-international-ip-protection/european-patent-office "The United States has copyright relations with most countries throughout the world, and as a result of these agreements, we honor each other's citizens' copyrights. However, the United States does not have such copyright relationships with every country. A listing of countries and the nature of their copyright relations with the United States is available from the U.S. Copyright Office." European Union Unitary Patents is only in 17 countries currently: https://www.ptslaw.com/patent-news/how-will-eus-unitary-patents-affect-u-s-ip-law/ There is some USA legal discussion here: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6383512/is-fragrant-masterpiece-patented I have not yet found any patent, copyright, or trademark for Ascot/Askot/TAN01757 in the USA. "...we honor each other's citizens' copyrights" is lovely legally vague wording that means nothing....See MoreBenT (NorCal 9B Sunset 14)
