Re charging an iPad

The second-hand iPad a kind friend gave me a few years ago finally died and I bought a new one at an Apple store, the 2017 9.7" one, but not "Pro."

I was looking through the user manual and found this:

"Your battery is designed to retain
up to 80% of its original capacity at 1000 complete charge cycles. The one-year
warranty includes service coverage for a defective battery. If it is out of
warranty, Apple offers a battery service for $99, plus $6.95 shipping,
subject to local tax."

I have never been certain as to how far I should let an iPad or tablet battery get depleted before recharging. Often I do it when it reaches 70% full or less, but rarely wait until it is real low. But since the manual says "1000 complete charge cycles," does that mean I ought to let the battery get real low before fully charging it? Or is it the percentage I recharge each time going to be added up volume-wise (so to speak) to make 1000 complete charges (from near 0 to 100%) in all, in which case the way I do it before getting very low, I will be recharging it many more than 1000 times?

Thanks for any help.
