This business of radish plants being self-incompatible, in that flowers from one plant can't be fertilized by flowers from the same plant, was bothering me. If I have a seed packet of these things, and the seeds all came from one plant, how would your crop ever fertilize? I was talking to a botanist, and got some interesting answers. First of all, the seed provider ALWAYS gets their seeds from MANY PLANTS, and is careful to mix those seeds before packaging. Also, self-compatablility is a bred-in characteristic. Many native plants, including native vegetable plants, are self-incompatible. Self-incompatability is genetically advantageous. All human cultures have strong intolerance of incest for exactly this reason. But you'd really rather not have plants that can't self-fertilize. So that characteristic is bred out. It can be done. For plants like radishes that are only rarely asked to bear fruit, no one has ever bothered to do that.

Plant scorching? Everywhere I read it says that but mine was out in direct afternoon sun all last summer and it didn't have any problems. Actually it was doing very good. I just took mine out for the summer. Should it be blooming soon and what can I do to make it bloom. I heard it's very pretty when blooming. I've had mine for a year this month, and it's had no blooms yet. I think that when I got it, it had already bloomed.

Hi..here is a picture of my rat tail... yes it has brown spots and has gotten very thin and dryed and brown in places..I hope you can see in my picture....what is wrong with my cactus??? and how can I help it..I very nice member here sent me the cuttings and I really don't want to loose it, I looked for a long time to get it...and she did send me another one but I lost that one....:(..... any help would be great....linda
