Removing Wall Texture - Unknown Texture Material Over Plaster
Comments (10)My thoughts on the order of attack are: 1. Use putty knife to get in behind it to the plaster in a small inconspicuous area just to get a better grip on what I'm working with. 2. Water/Fabric Softener out of a pump sprayer. If it soaks in, let it sit for a while and see if it comes off with a putty knife or scraper. 3. Try this product from Amazon (link at bottom) - EcoSolve Home Strip X-Tex Textured Coatings Remover 4. I'm going to be renting a steamer for all of the wallpaper in the home and will maybe give that a go as well. 5. If none of the above works, I will try to sand. If this works, I will likely rent a power sander/vacuum combo. 6. If all else fails, I will skim coat with joint compound. Does this sound reasonable? Comments (2)Thanks so much for your reply. I took another stab at it and this time brought in the hose from outside on "mist" mode. Working MUCH easier and I've got almost a quarter of the wall done. Luckily, this is the window wall so there's that huge chunk of window space I don't have to do! This popcorn crap is recent - within the past 2 years. I know for absolute sure because the paint underneath it is the same as the very recent paint in the master bedroom. I'm still waiting to uncover the reason WHY they decided to use popcorn crap... what are they covering up? So far I've just got some messy drywall around the window frame. It seems a but crumbly and there are a few dark patches that might be a bit of mold or water damage, but I scraped it away down to the stud and there's no damage there. I just wish I wasn't 5'2", because the job would be much easier if I could reach the top half of the room without a ladder. I can't ask the husband, I'm lucky enough he's started on the floor. Now I just need to convince the dogs to stop trying to eat it....See MorePopcorn ceiling texture - is contractor's work acceptable?
Comments (3)Matching popcorn ceilings is a very difficult job. I'm posting a pic below of a reposession rehab I did this year of a seven-year old townhouse. The painter patched the ceiling subjected to long-neglected leaks, then re-textured the area. In the photo, it stands out. In person, you'd really only see it if you knew what you were looking for. Respraying the entire ceiling in a new coat of paint would have completely disguised the repair. Similarly, when I've torn down partitioning walls and was faced with three different ceiling heights and different texturing, the plasterer levelled the ceilings with mesh and plaster, then applied new heavy texturing to the entire ceiling. Spending more, you can always get a more perfect job. This post was edited by worthy on Mon, Aug 18, 14 at 12:34...See MoreHair texture products: any recommendations?
Comments (50)I was at Ulta last week, not my favorite place to shop, looking something for my hair. I have color treated, fine hair but lots of it. I never use conditioner, a detangler or even shampoo with a conditioner. I stay away from any extra products, they make my hair flat and feel dirty the next day. I asked one of the hairdresser for a suggestion and she recommended Beach Envy volumizer by Redken. it was pricey but she said I could come in and swap it out if I didn't like it. I will say it is the best thing I have ever tried on my hair! Its almost like a gel that you apply after shampooing, work through and then rinse out. My hair is full, the slight curl, I wear it in a longish bob, stays in for at least 3 days and it does not feel dirty, it actually feels good. I like my hair to look healthy and have movement (says my hairdresser) and it does. BTW the gal from Ulta said if I didn't like that product that Fashion waves 07 that lukki suggested was very good too, she actually didn't know which one to recommend to me. I finally have a product that works for me!!! It will probably be discontinued tomorrow LOL....See Morephuninthesun
