4 week old Bermuda Grass care in Texas - Newbie
Comments (9)Only modification you have to make from the Bible is more frequent watering due to the shallow root system of new sod. With that said forget about any type of watering rules like 1-inch per week. It does not work. Instead let your grass tell you when it needs water by looking at it. Then give it a good soaking of 1-inch of water. It is real easy to tell when Bermuda or really any grass needs water. Look for the first signs of color shift from emerald green to more dull bluish grey color. When the grass starts to get dry the grass blades will curl up to minimize sun exposure and conserve water. When that happens the underside of the blade is visible and has a duller Bluish Grey color. The other method is the walk test. As you walk look behind yourself for foot prints. With well hydrated grass the foot prints disappear. When dry you will see your foot prints. Learn how to do it as it is really easy once you have seen it once or twice. At the very first sign, soak it. In everyone's yard there is an area that goes dry first before any other area. Find that spot in your yard and watch it. It will typically be a high spot exposed to the elements of sun and wind....See MoreOt posting Hibiscus flowers from Texas Coast
Comments (19)We will go down next weekend, and I hope that the other hibiscus will be in bloom. I also hope that I will have brugmansia blooms, if so I will post pictures again. My plumeria will probably not bloom this year, I just purchased them from Florida Colors in June. This was the first year, I did not dig them up in 12 years. they were established trees, so I was not worried. I will never make that mistake again. All you have to do is dig up the pumeria and desert rose, wrap in newspaper, and store in the garage rafters. That is what I plan to do next year.I wish I could do that with my brugmansia. They are almost all new plants, since I had to start over, I will probable need to cover all the plants if we get a freeze, something I have never had to do before. Barbra,...See MoreOT: POTD: One more day and Texas has me back

Comments (4)If they haven't bloomed by now, they aren't going to in that spot. I think just cutting them will be a waste of time. I suspect they are on the north side of your house and getting too much shade. They will not bloom without enough sunlight. I think that is also the source of your scale. Move your plants to a sunnier location. They will bloom next year and you might find the scale disappear as the plants will be happier. Work in as much organic matter as you can find....See MoreLove stone homes
