Comments (15)Most definitely, the design challenge for living rooms that have no foyer and is a walk thru room is to create that cosy feeling. The configuration of your room should be flipped. The long sleek sofa should be on the long sleek wall. By relocating the sofa, a foyer is created with a sofa table under the window with the bench under it and a closed wood cabinet backing up the sofa. Walking into a solid piece of wood furniture will ground the space and define the seating. There is 4'-0" clearance from the front door wall and the edge of the sofa and don't forget that everything is low (30" - 33") so there isn't an obstruction. Also creating the foyer forces a specific space for all that stuff we all walk in with when we get home. In the plan note that the blue line indicates the tv (sorry for moving all those wires). The red lines indicate art/mirrors. By relocating the tv on the staircase wall, it allows easy access to the closet under the stairs, creates a reading nook at the window, and allows room for another lounge chair and ottoman near the stairs. It looks good, too. Consider painting the wall behind the tv from the window to the staircase an interesting color, wallpaper or wall treatment. this way that wall will be pleasing to look at. Here's the plan, the best I could figure out without measurements. Looks like a very big sofa so a 12' sofa is in the plan. The rug should be a 9 x 12 in front of the sofa and a runner at the front door running side to side.Of course you will have to verify the measurements to make sure this will work. The nice thing about furniture is that you can move it around! Hope this helps....See MoreHelp on choosing the right rug size and furniture layout
Comments (18)Happy to help, a 9 x 12 will be best. Think about how you use your current family room. Do you have friends over for movie night or games? If you can seat at least 5, preferably 6 you will be happier with the space. You can have 2 swivel chairs, one on each side of the sofa. You also have seating at the kitchen island and if you have not purchased those stools yet, look for swivel stools so TV viewing is comfortable from there. The placement on your plan for a 9 x 12 is a bit off...I would center it on the back wall though I realize you may have a piece of furniture on the wall in back of the sofa which is not on your current plan. All the best to you, I am sure that the room will look great.... and I am sure that your husband would love a bigger TV :p PS: Since your room is not very large, do not use large scale furniture and make some templates from newspaper or a brown paper roll from the Hardware store in the size of the furnishings you are considering to make sure that you will be happy with the layout and have enough room for the pieces you like. It will make it easier for you to visualize the space, and the furniture placement....See MoreNeed help picking out rug and curtains to match new furniture
Comments (9)my daughter has similar chair and grey sectional...she has windows just like yours! She did a navy and white wide horizontal stripe. She got them on sale at Target I think, 5 panels and they are the shorter length and she hung them on a one inch diameter rod and they stop right at the bottom of the window, the rod is between the ceiling and the window top and are about 5 inches beyond the windows on each end...they look so cool and since they are not hitting the floor they hang nice and straight.......the sofa is in front of the window too,...See MoreNeed help with patio furniture layout please!
Comments (8)@KW PNW Z8 Thank you! The color of the cushions is what made me buy this set. I’ll put up a pic once I have more of the pieces assembled. To give a general idea - the area is concrete and is located on my side yard. One end of the 12’x12’ space leads to a large side gate to get to the front of the house. The other end leads to a long concreted path with a long row of privets that I’m growing to make a hedge for privacy. Will post a pic ASAP. p.s. I‘m on the west coast. I just realized that is what you may have been asking :) @Maureen I love these pictures! So helpful!! Love the idea of adding accessories! And lanterns - love this idea!! Thank you!!! @Kate such a great idea to move it up and not put it against the wall. Thank you for your ideas! —— I’m feeling so much better and positive about putting the rest of the pieces together! After I assembled the first two pieces, I was so unsure and felt I made the wrong purchase decision and wasted so much money. Posting here was the best decision and extremely helpful! ! Now I feel more positive and am excited (and motivated) to open the other boxes and start assembling! This is such a wonderful forum! Will post an updated pic ASAP....See MoreRelated Professionals
