Comments (9)As one who adopted a large, untrained dog I applaud you for doing the right thing with respect to training. Had we adopted Rex as a puppy we'd have been "in class" too. The window of opportunity with puppies is fleeting and to capitalize on it is wise, indeed! For us, it's been a struggle. A "jumbo" dog with a puppy's need to play is too often mistaken for a rogue, out of control, intact dog. Keep it up! Obedience work is the best way to socialize your dog. (what a face for ice cream!)....See MoreHere is a TRULY great story to keep your day going-and make your week
Comments (31)Students in most all colleges party and cavort to excess, that's not significantly different in one place as another. I agree generally with what you're saying. Of course the mid-range and lower students aren't flotsam or hovel sleepers. But continuing the fantasy that everyone is entitled by birth to and is capable of getting a college degree and that that will make their life magical isn't the right mindset either. There are too many youngsters who aren't capable of being successful in college but there aren't enough alternatives offered to them. I said I saw a problem and I don't know what the solutions are. Some quick numbers I found without belaboring the point - California Community Colleges have 2.1 million students. Yes, many are part time, many are adults or even retired persons taking classes for personal or occupational enrichment. Fair enough. Let's assume half of the total is such people and others in the very important two year vocational programs (Fire/police, dental and medical assisting, etc). That leaves about one million. Total CSU transfers in Fall 2014- 47,000 Total UC transfers 2015-016 - 17,000 That's 64,000. If it takes 3 years to complete 2 years (which it shouldn't), then there are 350,000 "graduates" each year and 64K are transferring to the obvious places. What's happening to the rest of them? Hundreds of thousands disappear each year. My speculation is these missing noses are dropping out before completing a program and perhaps shouldn't have been there to begin with....See MoreToday Was Grandparent's Day at School
Comments (16)I agree Chisue. Childhood is fleeting. DD is a stay at home mom and is determined to keep the child in childhood. She actually cried when she made the decision to put DGD in for 4 half days. Not because she would miss her but because it meant dropping an activity. She told me she refused to be that mother (her words) who micromanaged every moment of her child's day with structured activity. It's been our experience that DGD is really advanced (compared to her traditionally schooled friends) in so many areas because academics are not stressed in her life. She's read to, she prints the alphabet, writes her name, and she knows her numbers, colors, is starting phonics based reading etc. but she learns mostly through play and activities with mom and dad. She bakes and does all the steps herself with mom's guidance. (math, reading, science, motor skills) They do crafts together and she likes to do it "herself" with little help and her parents encourage this,. She recently made turkey candy pops to pass out to her friends at preschool. She helps dad wrench on the current restoration car. Puts on puppet shows and makes up dance routines. Goes to craft days and meet-ups with mommy groups and home schoolers. Little bro is following right behind in her footsteps. She learns a lot by teaching him skills. She has a lot of time spent at the local parks and meet ups with kids from all cultures and ages. I guess her days are full of spice. We call that learning....See Moreeld6161
