ID on Two Plants Please

1. Tall yellow spikes of flowers - never seen this plant before

2. The second plant has green waxy leaves but there appears to be some sort of tiny black insects on them and causing them to turn brown. Any ideas what the plant and insects are and how to get rid of the insects? Don't think they are aphids.

The 1st plant is the glorious Ligularia 'The Rocket'

The 2nd is a Hylotelephium formerly known as Sedum.

Top is a Ligularia hybrid, perhaps Bottle Rocket.

Second is a Hylotelephium of some sort.

Without a picture no idea on the insects.

I don't know Patricia. I will have to ask her if it has flowered. I had guessed it was some sort of hibiscus or mallow. I have a burgundy one that has leaves very similar to it.

First one is Syngonium podophyllum, AKA 'Arrowhead Vine.' Not a succulent like the second, but a tropical plant (grown as a houseplant by many, some grow outside year-round if it's warm enough. Not frost tolerant or cold tolerant for that matter). Planto

Someone is trying to grow in the same garden two plants with opposite cultural requirements. It simply can't work. Either Sedum, sorry Hylotelephium, or Ligularia has to suffer. Looks like this time it is Hylotelephium.The insects, whatever they are, are only the symptom not the cause of the problem.

My advice is: move the Hylotelephium to another, sunny and DRY location with a sandy soil, it will recover by itself. Or, if it is not possible, just get rid of it.

no bug has ever killed a sedum ... lol ...

full sun ... and once established.. it probably doesnt need anything else.. including water ... ever ....

by fall .. which it will be in a few weeks, if it isnt already in z3 .. lol .. ... im not really fighting insects ...as it will be dead to the ground.. along with the bugs in a rather short while ...

OP here. The Hylotelephium and Ligularia are located in different parts of the garden so no worries there. Good to know the Hylotelephium is a hardy plant but I took a picture of the bugs on the leaves anyway if anyone can identify. We've been having an amazing summer here, plants not dead yet!
