What do you grow along with your hostas?
Comments (21)I have 2 hosta beds in front of my house where once they fill out will be nothing but hosta. Rest of it is garden, shady garden in dappled shade under higly pruned oaks. I also have hostas there but they intervined with multiple multiple perennials many of them I have grown from seeds so many are not so common in gardens. My blooming season starts mid Feb- with snowdrops blooms and ends with fall late blooming asters, aconitums and fall crocuses. Spring season includes multiple small bulbs- pushinkina, scilla, bluebells, muscari, ornitogalum, geranium maculatum, corydalis, camassia, galanthus, spring crocus, etc As spring progresses I have multiple columbines growing from alpines to Mc Kana giant ones- just cut foliage after they bloom or let the unfurling hosta grow over it and you can easily have them in you hosta bed. Multiple primulas are my faforites- grow them from seed and love their show- many of them will disappear by the time hostas fully leafed so can be planted together. pulmonarias, heucheras, spring anemones add much to the beds. As summer progresses lobelias and fall anemones pick up show. Various sedges and hakonechloas add on to different shapes. Aconitums are varied - they bloom from mid summer into late fall and always welcome in the shady garden. I love campanulas and have many varieties of them. many low growing ones twine around smaller hostas bringing their bells to give additional interest. To mention a few- polemoniums, peltobykinia, tellima grandiflora, lysimachia, hardy geraniums early and late blooming ones, mitella diphylla, kirengosoma palmata, bergenias- of well, I have to go out and see what else I remember is there. For bulbs check out Van Engelen wholesale- they are great or Becky and Brent. As much as I love hostas- there are so many other plants I want to grow in my garden- whew,,,,makes my head spin yeah, Holy Mole looks great with hydrangea Anabelle- picks up same light green color from each other- stunning combination. accidental planting of Gilt by assotiation next to lysimachia ciliata fireckracer with its intense purple leaves in spring was unbeatable and mentioned by everyone who visited garden....See Moregap between porcelain floor tile and door trim...what to do??
Comments (8)Also, we used Polyblend's "Charcoal" for the grout on the porcelain tile floor. There doesn't seem to be a Charcoal color for the caulk. What's a good substitute? A different brand? Thanks!...See MoreRunning Electric along Concrete Floor for center floor outlets
Comments (31)The groove in the concrete needs to be deep enough to make a thick enough patch over the conduit (at thr thinnest spot in the patch) to not crack ad look bad. That is about it. You need concrete tight connectors for all conduit and conduit to box joints, and a type of conduit rated for direct use in concrete. It is a nasty dusty hand job for the most part. Scoring more than just two grooves can go a long way towards preventing going through the slab all the way when breaking out the groove material. There are advantages two, three, or more grooves. You can ten use a chisel driven in a groove to break off a section of concrete with the next groove as clearance. If the spacing between the grooves is smaller it is more likely to break off near the bottom of the grooves....See MoreBest Colors To Go With Wood Trim Along Stairs
Comments (14)David thanks for your reply. I too don't disagree with any suggestions as I am always open to ideas, but for right now I think simply painting the walls and perhaps the upstairs hallway the same color would be the best option for us. I do love white trim, but with a few different rooms having a nice beige/tan color with the wood trim, I really want to keep those intact. So if I switch in one area of the house, I will have two sets of trim and I am not sure I want that as it will force me into having to make determinations about the transitions from room to room, doors, etc. Not to say in a couple years I wouldn't want to tackle that, but with us having a baby, I don't want to take on too much. I am curious about the steps as well. At least the exposed portion of the first 4-5 steps leads me to believe there could be something decent to work with. Priariemo61 - i will look into that color - Thanks for your advice!...See MoreJohnson Flooring Co Inc
