Online K&B plan consult?
Comments (12)I've done it in the past, but as I'm retired now, I don't need to take on that type of headache. It takes a lot of accuracy on your end, and trust on the KD's end that the installer, A) can measure correctly, B) understands the intricacies of measuring for cabinets and C) can actually do a good quality cabinet install involving out of whack floors, walls, and ceiling, as well as crown moldings etc. There's a local member of my NKBA chapter who posts here sometimes (GreenDesigns) that still takes on some projects like that, but you'd better be sure of exactly what you want out of such a relationship. Do you want a functional critique of your ideas? A critique of the planned finishes and how they integrate into the rest of the home? Suggestions for design elements and finishes? A critique of another designer's kitchen layout, or the finishes involved in their layout? A kitchen layout that may or may not be possible in some cabinet lines due to their limitations? An actual kitchen design using a cabinet line that would be really buildable within that line? A design with major custom work that can only be instituted by a fully custom line or maker? What do you expect? And, yeah, are your expectations in line with market rates for designers for the services that you want? You can get a lot of valuable input for free from this forum if you are willing to do the legwork of proper measuring and a bit of thinking outside the box when suggestions are thrown your way. Of course, if you want more personal attention, then do some calling around if you don't have anyone local....See MoreExterior paint-not sure I agree w/House Color Consultant?
Comments (16)I have paid lots of money over the years for professional advise ... sometimes I take and sometimes I don't. There isn't just one perfect color for your house/trim/door. If you hire 5 more color consultants I will bet that they all come up with different suggestions and I bet none will say that your house looks fine just as it is ... after all you paid them to come out and make suggestions! You seem to be stuck on what was said by the consultant, but obviously you didn't agree with her or you wouldn't be posting here! It really is ok if you do your own thing, really! Here is a free consultation! If I bought your house today, this is what I would do: - paint house body BM Nantucket Grey - paint house trim a non-stark white color - ditch the shutters (I call them wasp condos) and beef up the trim around the windows - paint the front door a nice glossy deep red from Fine Paints of Europe - solid granite latern posts, for birdhouse too - since I hate having to paint them - paint fence same white color as trim - get rid of asphalt and replace with pavers That's what I would do. What do you (not some sonsultant) want for YOUR house?...See MoreLooking for a color consultant to help me choose the right color
Comments (17)Here's the kitchen. She didn't pick the floor, that was matched to existing--it's quite red! I had decided two tone cabinets and white subway tile, she helped me pick the specific cabinet colors, tile, counter, and wall color. Walls are Edgecomb Gray Here's the bathroom. I had decided wood vanity and white tiles--she helped me pick which tiles, cabinet stain, and paint color (BM Healing Aloe) She recommended paint colors for my 2 bedrooms as well, but I ended up diverging slightly. I wanted to paint my bedroom very dark almost black; she recommended a medium green, and I ended up doing Newburg Green. For the guest room, she recommended Edgecomb Gray again and I did Revere Pewter (I know, I'm a daredevil). I had a pretty good vision of what I wanted, so didn't get a ton of creative input from her (rooms actually came out fairly close to my inspiration pics). For me, I was spending so much $$$ on the remodel, especially on permanent fixtures (cabinet, tile, counter), that $500 was worth the peace of mind that I was making the right decisions....See MoreHow do I find a *good* color consultant?
Comments (10)I looked at oldhouseguy.com and immediately loved that he says there is a correct and incorrect aesthetic to houses. Yes! I can come up with various schemes that look sort of pretty, but for the price tag of painting, I don't just want pretty, I want harmonious and darn near perfect. I want the house that you look at and think "They nailed it!" I'm now in communication with Old House Guy. My concern with his pictures is that he puts too many colors on one house. Nice colors, but too many. On his price estimate he indicated, "Your house should have two colors. A trim color and a sash and shutter color. As for your cornice, it is not in the picture but should be the trim color." Is the casing considered trim? If so, I think it would look really busy to have a shutter color, then a second color for casing and then back to the shutter color for the sash. Am I interpreting the suggestion correctly?...See Moresrqlady
