Comments (6)somehow.. i suspect that sidewalk is part of the problem ... these plants.. properly sited.. probably should have been planted 2 or 3 feet from such ... i like to say.. get them dormant.. and keep them dormant.. thru winter .. a large heat sink.. like the cement.. can repeatedly thaw the soil.. and if the roots keep going in and out of dormancy.. during winter.. sooner or later.. stuff happens ... is the walkway in full sun.. all day ..??? finally.. any use of salt or ice remover.. due to some bizarre NC winter event???? .. how bad was your winter???? .. compared to other years???? ken...See MoreNot sure what type of contractor I need?

Comments (14)What kind of black ants? Big black ants like carpenter ants or little black ants like fire ants? If they're carpenter ants, spray won't touch them, and they'll hollow out your tree until it dies. You have to get to the next to kill carpenter ants, which is very deep underground, and may not even be close to the tree. Use Amdro and see if that gets them. Comments (5)Composite wins every time based on long term maintenance but costs several times what wood does. I always prefer a light grey deck as it’s the most ‘neutral’. The composites that look like brand new wood (like orange cedar) look fake to me because cedar only has that color for a week and slowly fades to grey.
