I don't like either: Orange or light gray, blechh. My pref would be a dull clay or charcoal.

Do you have an existing clay or concrete roof tile? They are heavy and you will need to be sure that your roof structure can support such a roof. They have a very long life-span, but are expensive. My vote is for the orange. Gray on gray on gray is...gray!

I really like the sunset too. It's so appropriate for S. Florida, and looks cheerful and welcoming.

Virgil- Yes I have white concrete tile, so same will be used.

cpartist- I have white now, the problem with white it gets so dirty and looks grey, its not good to power wash roofs either. All the white roofs down here look very bad due to the amount of rain we get which traps dirt/grime etc....

California, Zona I would go with white again.

Then check out a metal roof. I originally was going to put on a gray concrete roof but then found out the cost difference wasn't that great (for me I think it was $1600 total) so switched to a metal roof. BTW: I know about the rain, etc. I'm in SW FL.

Your tile holds up very well in the tropical climates! I think metal would not look good with your house looks like its a stucco house. I would embrace the tropical climate and go for the orange tile, as in the photo you posted. It will add color and like you said hide the wear.

Obviously Roof Wizard you haven't been to FL for a while since a large majority of new homes are going with metal roofing.

mpk, I don't know because mine's a new build. I just know that is what I had to pay above the price of a cement tile roof. Mine is NOT a standing seam roof but a 5 V crimp. Have you priced 5 V crimp because I know that standing seam is almost double the cost of cement tile.

Roof Wizard is right, though... Tile is used in tropical climates around the globe. It also has the history to prove itself. :-) New homes in FL using metal roofing doesn't change the historical use -- and climate appropriateness -- of tile.

Doesn't necessarily mean metal is bad for the climate; he didn't claim that. He only stated an aesthetic preference for tile looking best with stucco, which is neither right or wrong.

I'm sure metal roofing is fine in Florida... Although I tend to have "commercial" associations with it, myself, despite it being used for homes locally here in central Texas (for "Hill Country" styles).

Love the Texas Hill Country - I have family there. But I live here in SE Fl. We see lots of metal now on roofs here. They are easier to maintain, stay clean longer and are energy efficient - and last for a very long time. But if you prefer tile, than that's what you need to go with OP. Do you need to do that color? The orange? There are so many choices now in flat tile and S-tile. The orange looks harsh to me with your style of home.

Orange isn't necessary but I did go thru several color schemes

I have white that actually looks Grey, difficult to keep clean

I considered brown(ish) but want to get away from brown due to heat retention and I have beige driveway, mega Greige paint which is beige/Grey so I want to complement these "browns"

The only drawback to metal is its cost. It is about 60% more in cost to tile.

What about the metal tiles that LOOK like cement tiles? Best of both worlds? Lighter, durable, and still the look of the tiles.
