You have done a wonderful job! Love your kitchen! I'm in the middle of using milk paint now to paint my cabinets and I can say that I just love it. This is my first experience with it and I want to paint everything in my house with it....but I will restrain myself! I didn't have to prime at all, but you do need to get all the stain and any polyurethane off the cabinet first. Milk paint does the best on wood that has never been painted. There is an adhesive promoter that I bought and added to mine just to make sure it stayed on since my cabinets were stained previously. I have no idea how it will hold up, but so far, so good. I'm not finished with them yet however, so time will tell. Milk paint soaks into the wood, so whatever you do, make sure you will not want it to be stained again, since I think it takes a nuclear bomb to get it off. The company I ordered it from does have a milk paint remover however, but have no idea how that works. I ordered mine from The Real Milk Paint Co. Looks like quite a nice house...glad it found an old house lover to take good care of it. There is an incredible amount of labor in redoing an old house. I tell people that you have to really love an old house otherwise you will hate it. Trust me, right now I'm in the hate it phase of redoing endless amounts of trim...Who said french doors and 6 over 6 windows were such a nice feature? I like your wall color; it is similar to my new house project. I mix mine from white paint and miscellaneous tints but aim for something around that color. I have found that light blue/green/gray is an excellent choice in houses with a mix of stained trim and white. To my eye, many colors of beige just don't show off well against wood trim Ambiguous is a good description...depends on the lighting. From the vantage point of the dining room, looking through the hallway into the back bedroom, the paint appears to be two different shades. Just like my floor where the exact same stain is used on both sides of the line where living room meets dining room...looks like a totally different floor color depending on the viewpoint.

Sorry, didn’t finish because I went searching for an inspiration photo. Consider painting/staining the clapboard and the shingles the same color. You will be staining the shingles and painting the clapboard (recommend B.M. Exterior Soft Gloss), so the finishes will show differently, but the color the same. It’s the fish scale shingles I find so fabulous…those I would stain lighter. Trim all white and your door stays the same. I know it is more than you asked, but give it some thought. You need not paint the entire exterior, Start by painting the clapboard the same as the shingles and going light on the fish scales..

@hallettco It is definitely old milk paint, for it budges with ammonia and elbow grease. I assume the other paint layers are lead and do all the lead abatement measures...what I'm confused about is whether milk paint is also lead based. So many sites make it sound as if cheaper milk paint was used in the old days n place of lead paint, and it's made of "safe" ingredients. Only one site from a British webpage says milk paint equals lead paint...I'm still going to treat it as such, but I really do not want to have to sand any of it, and even the ammonia method is not totally effective.
