I bought a new keyboard/mouse. Same problem is happening. Doesn't happen when I use the up/down arrows to scroll but happens with the scroll on the mouse.

The only thing that stands out to me is that Firefox seems to be swollen in size. Also, what security program are you using?

Have you cleared Firefox's cache and related garbage lately? Try that. Tools, Options, Privacy, click on the blue words that say Clear All Current History.

Also, if you have Malwarebytes, try running that to clear out some of the retained unnecessary files.

It's a bit puzzling, Jane, because mouse and keyboard commands are minuscule pieces of information that take almost no resources to handle. The communication to the PC from these peripherals either works or it doesn't so that if it does but the PC's response is sluggish, that suggests (to hardware unsophisticated me) that the problem is on the PC end of things. Let's see what happens with a bit of cleanup.

Also, maybe try a session with a different browser first, see if there's a difference in performance.

I agree, that's why I was puzzled. I cleared FF and did a CClean. The only AV I have is what's installed, Defender. I noticed I have all this Dell crap which I will shut off or uninstall if I can find services, lol.

This was a Win 7 laptop I updated to Win 10. Its probably 3-4 yrs old.

As I type, I notice no hesitation and the scroll seems to be working.

Odd, I'll do some other work and post back, but it feels responsive.

I'm glad it's working better.

Windows Defender is a poor security program. It ranks very low when compared to other products when all undergo testing and performance assessments. Much better protection is available at no cost and maybe requiring only 10 minutes or less of your time to get and install.

First choice - check the website of your internet service provider (or call customer service). Many furnish top quality security programs to customers for no charge. As an example, I get Norton (an excellent performer) from Comcast.

Second choice - Look at the following link for ratings of free versions of security software. While I think these are maybe a step down from the paid versions of the same programs, all are better than Windows Defender. Choose one of the three from left to right for the top rated ones - Avast, AVG, Bitdefender.

I would say it's most probably a malware/adware or something like that since the CPU usage and Disk usage are very low per the screenshots you sent, despite the resources used by Firefox, it should not be the reason.

In the meantime you can also try to check the degree of fragmentation of your filesystem as you said you had this computer a while.

Vant, I don't think its malware as everything works fine except the keyboard/mouse.

Thanks to Whip, it is working well. It still has its moments but I'm suspicious of the wireless connection. Maybe the USB?

I run into problems with my wireless signal now and then, even my phone will use LTE inside the house which it shouldn't. Maybe the router?

Anyway, works much better now, I guess a cleanup was in order.

Wireless dongles are sometimes dodgy, more frequently than USB sockets. But you said you bought new stuff so did that include a new dongle? As I mentioned before, I believe if the connection is functioning, it would function with immediate response and not with a delay. It is digital stuff after all.

How old is the PC? Is there a different USB socket you can move the dongle to? Do you have a wired keyboard or mouse to try in that socket, if so, how does it work?

A delay from keyboard or mouse should similarly have nothing to do with a dodgy wireless signal or internet speed. Is the internet connection slow if you're in the same room as the router? How old is the router? What internet capacity speed does your connection provide?
