Natural fiber Area Rug advice
Comments (9)I just was browsing my latest Home Decorators catalog and I saw a Faux Sisal that caught my eye. I would need to see it in person. I'm starting to think about adding a cat to the household and natural sisal is not an option, so faux may be for me. It says it is soft. I would think something like this would probably be available in the box stores. http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Cove_Area_Rug/880/ This post was edited by wendyb on Sat, Feb 1, 14 at 9:26...See MoreCan you have a modern country look with flat braided rug?
Comments (62)I like the room as is. You could change up accessories and art if you're looking to freshen up. I should mention I like color and contrast. My first thought about a sisal rug is it could blend too much with your furniture. If you were keeping the braided rug (sounds like you're taking it up) my first thought was a pale blue or pale green gray paint like how the photo Onedogedie posted looks on my monitor. I also really like the rooms Oaktown posted (first set). I like your furniture, horse pic, and the ironstone! Are you honestly tired of your braided rug? Whatever you end up with, just remember to be true to your style. You could also take up the rug for now and maybe just use it in the winter months to change it up. It's very nice looking. I'd take the rug up and see how you feel and consider painting going the painting direction first since it's cheaper than a new rug....See MoreSources for Washable rugs for Kid's Rooms
Comments (4)Our previous home was all hardwood- even the bedrooms. I got an adorable chenille braided rug in pretty pastel colors for dd's room. Big Mistake! It looked terrible after about a year. It was impossible to clean. My suggestion would be to stay away from natural fibers if at all possible (wool, cotton, sisal, etc). I've had the best luck with rugs made with tightly woven olefin. They seen to resist stains the best and are easy to spot clean. I'm not sure you'll find any truly "washable" (as in the machine) rugs other than bath mats. Good luck- hope you find something that will work....See MoreBraided rug for family room?
Comments (10)The pictures you're showing are not braided, they are an enlarged knit pattern. While these chunky textures are fun, they will look good for maybe a couple of months, if you're lucky. You'll be forever picking stuff out of the holes in the knit. Not a good choice for a high-traffic area, IMO. If you like a textured feel, then perhaps look at Moroccan-style wool rugs that have a bit of shaggyness to them. Wool wears well and is easily cleaned. Something like these, perhaps:...See MoreRelated Professionals
