Comments (150)I hope that those who say people with large homes are just showing off realize how that sounds. :o( kelntx~ Your friend should be ashamed. Oh... and find new friends. Stat. :O) Just kidding. We haven't even told most of our friends that we've bought a 2nd home, let alone how large it is. We didn't buy it "to show off". We bought it because we got it for a great price, and it adequately meets our needs. Yes, it is much larger than what we were searching for, but we're not going to complain. And you know what.... if a room sits unused, the cooling/heating won't be wasted. They have invented these great things called "vents" that can be turned off for individual rooms. :o) Sorry if I'm sounding testy. But I don't get the mentality of "let's be critical if someone has a large home". Who cares?! Seriously. If they want a million square feet with a strip of grass all around... I guess I don't mind. And before you surmise that this is hitting close to home.... no, we bought 25 acres for our horses. Otherwise, I'd love a small-ish yard. Less upkeep, and your garden can look that much better with gardening time devoted to less space. Okay, I'm getting down off my soapbox......See MoreWhat is your definition?
Comments (10)AFAIC to even suggest that a singer on a popularity contest should be termed an "idol" is a pretty pompous and self-serving position, albeit not surprising given that the show is to not be a singing contest but a popularity contest whether decided by the voters or by the producers is of no consequence. i÷dol (ahyd-l) -noun 1. an image or other material object representing a deity to which religious worship is addressed. 2. Bible . a. an image of a deity other than god. b. the deity itself. 3. any person or thing regarded with blind admiration, adoration, or devotion: Madame Curie had been her childhood idol. Seems to me the show suggests, if not proves that there's a lot more people who feign religion than are actually "religious", given the number of people who watch the show. Otherwise there must be a lot of hypocrites. I think it'd be better to look for role models. People who support themselves and their families, looks out for their neighbors, is honest with people, participates in crime prevention, doesn't need to put on airs or keep up with the Jones' and spend money they don't have and can't afford on things they neither need nor want. People who will get active in elections, and vote and instead of whining that there's nothing they can do, get out and do something about it. Someone who'll say good morning to someone to help lift their spirits but doesn't look for ways to be offended by any little thing. I could go on but won't. There's a lot of ways people can and should be role models but so few do....See MoreYour Responses to Cluttered Interiors?
Comments (59)My ex-boyfriend was a hoarder, and so was his mom. He said his mom didn't have many toys growing up, so she bought them for herself as an adult. My ex wanted for nothing, so I am guessing his hoarding was learned behavior. I knew I could not live with that (we were "serious" and dated for 5 years). It was one of the reasons we broke up. I have heard that his now-wife was able to help him get rid of things . . .he'll probably always have too much for my taste, but I figure she was the absolute right person for him if she was able to get him to let things go. I couldn't even get him to get rid of a ticket stub! My parents both grew up in the time of the depression (one born '26 and one born in '32) and neither one of them were hoarders, though I do remember my dad liking a well-stocked kitchen. I have a strong reaction to clutter and mess . . .always have. When I was younger (under 12) I could not stand to study in my room when it was messy. I have such a sense of peace when things are clean. BUT, I am not always organized or efficient enough to keep things that way. I wrote about this on another thread, that it is the logistics of actually getting rid of things that is a problem vs. my not wanting to get rid of things. I also sometimes don't know "what" to get rid of. For example, we keep getting rid of children's baby clothes thinking we are done, but then we have another child . . .last week DH and I decided we are going to just get rid of what we have because much of it has been past back/forth with my sister for the last 10 years. This baby is going to get new things, and we will have less to store. One of my biggest issues is other people's things. I got rid of 99% of my knicknacks (much to my mom's dismay-- she tried to stop me from it) and other items. But, my husband's and children's items are different story. I never know what I can/should not get rid of....See More- 9 years ago
