Hi Rain! I like your user name and also the fact that you are a person who can get a bunch of folks to do a project together. I like the windchime with found objects idea, you could just buy fishing line for everyone. You might make one at home or print some pics to get people going. If you can find some bolts and washers or such to mix in (used-cheap at home?) that could add a masculine and or musical element. Another idea is to decorate plastic pots with found beach objects. They could be transported home in a suitcase if they were not too big and stuffed with socks or something. Once you get to your destination you could ask at a garden place if they have any used ones you could buy cheap. You would need to buy a few squeeze tubes of GE Silicone ii for windows and doors - clear for everyone to share. Check to see if there is a freecycle for your destination to see if anyone is giving away any interesting materials. You could give people more than one option. What ever you do be sure to take pics and post them here! I can't wait to see what you come up with. Have fun. Kathy

I agree Jennifer. Should have mentioned it in my previous comment. Occasionally I see them during the day tucked in new leaves on our hydrangeas. Before I discover the rats I would do as you do and go out with a flashlight and a tall plastic jug with a small amount of the soapy water. Got hundreds from my small dahlia area. When I discovered the soya sauce and cooking oil method it did a better job than my picking. But then the rats came and would tip over my bait stations. Had to get rid of the stations and the rats. Now I use a form of white powder that is supposed to cut the earwigs causing them to die. Doesn't seem to work too well for me. I try to focus on the flowers and ignore some of the chewed leaves, but the flowers are also susceptible, especially as they begin to fade. No more bait stations, flashlights and soapy water for me. My dahlias are blooming well and their flowers look great, but I know the earwigs are there. Ugh! Anyone know what to do to attract earwigs only? Maxyck

Ceiling tiles, used in basements years ago by DIY's who couldn't do sheetrock. Then they started being used in the rest of the house by DIY's who couldnt properly repair cracks in the ceiling. When I see them, it screams, "What is hidden underneath?" Usually see it now at Estate sales when 90 year old people have died and the whole house is covered in the stuff. But yes , they can be glued up. Ron

wp Thank you...I love all kinds of plants - seems like mostly ones that are so hard to grow in our cold North:) While I dislike and worry about any kind of diseases and bugs like mealy, scale and so on and on and on, they will never live with me in (almost) sterile environment - and in natural habitat they don't either. I strive to be as clean as possible and vigilant enough to spot infection, if any, at the early stage. But I can't obsess about a fly, a spider, a grasshopper, or a bird hopping around and even checking if nest should be made in-around-under or next to one of my plants! I watched blue jay hiding peanuts in one of my pots - marvelous how smart those birds are, they remember where their stash is! - and worry about taking it indoors :) I curse sometimes at cute little chipmunks that like digging in any of the pots!, and find little nibbling (mostly of succulent leaves) here and there annoying - but to me, that's what the nature is all about. I enjoy the fauna as much as the flora - so it is all good. Great that you have outdoor space, definitely put your plants out there. Intensity of sun is already dropping, but they (plants) will still benefit greatly. I think we have at least 6 weeks, and hopefully much more before the "great migration". Rina
