LA ROSE OPTIMISTE - second day. OMG this is the best bloom it's ever had! Usually they ball or get thrips really bad.
CHESHIRE - here's a case of a young o/r plant not blooming true. I know it's the right rose, tho... because it already bloomed before with a "true" bloom. I guess the heat paled this one.

PETUNIA - going after the last bit of a corn cob
ELVIRA - my Alpha hen. She lays Jumbo med brown eggs. I thought I was going to lose her a couple months ago. I think she got egg bound for a day. I can see why, with the eggs she lays!! I can always tell which ones are hers.
GERTIE - she's one of last yr's Easter Eggers. They have beards instead of wattles. This time of yr, they tend to let the other birds pluck their beards. Not sure if it's due to the heat, or all the sticky watermelon they get. LOL
LULU is our newest Easter Egger. You can see her lovely beard. I'm not totally sure if she has laid any eggs yet. She's my third EE and I rarely even get two blue eggs per day, let alone all 3. They're not real consistent layers. So she could've laid one that I'm not aware of. I think she might've done so yesterday tho, because she was doing the "I'm gonna lay an egg" clucking for the first time that I know of. For those of you who don't have chickens, some of them let out some really loud and long strings of "Buh-cacks" when it's time to lay their eggs. They are actually often more noisy than the roosters crowing!

ESMERALDA was pretty thirsty tonight. I have water all over the pen in different containers besides this rubber tub. Gotta keep 'em hydrated in these triple digits!

GABRIELLA - one of my beautiful Brahmas. They are huge birds. I have a feeling when they start laying, their eggs will be bigger than Elvira's!

MORTICIA - Elvira's sister. She's my noisiest bird. She makes all sorts of sounds and practically yells. Sometimes she sounds like a dentist's drill buzzing...
My best girl FREDERIKA (Fred). She sit's on me and sometimes falls asleep on my lap. She's so pretty. She has a bum foot and sorta limps when she walks, and waddles so funny when she runs. I love her to pieces!!
ROSALINA & HENRIETTA. Miss H is molting on her neck right now, and most of her beard is plucked! Silly birds...
GRISELDA (Grizzie) - the sweetest of my two Barred Rocks. Her sister Ezzie bites me.. hard... draws blood sometimes. But I still love her too.
They're all my sweeties. I just love them so much. Best thing we ever did... besides growing roses....

Comments (26)For all those that urinate on their plants, it really pisses me off! Oh my Mercie!!lol Don't do that for fear you might get caught with your pants down. I have a couple of things you can do easier than that. Just do an Indian dance for rain every other day since rains pH is perfect and they will do fine. It has worked for me. Now I can't get it to stop raining..lol You should see how nice and green mine are now. Josh is right Merciepoo:-) Or, I should of told you that a long time ago that vinegar used correctly can enrich the color of your trees so much. You remember when mine use to be yellow? Using a capful of vinegar in my water has kept them a rich green for years. Comments (4)Thanks, Phil & Gesila! I will be excited for my beds to mature. Some are 2 - 3 years old, so some should leap this year. Sometimes, I feel like I've left too much space between them, and they'll never fill in to touch each other. Then, I find myself moving them because I've misjudged the actual size! Comments (35)Little Red Hen did live a long and happy life... She was so tame, and that was the reason she didn't try to get away when I held her. She never pecked me. Just a really neat pet. One of so, so many that I had. Aside from the many cats and a dog, we had jack rabbits, gophers, and a fox... all bottle fed because they had been rescued by my dad when he plowed the fields in spring. He might plow up a burrow with babies, and then his soft heart made him bring them home. We had a baby doll bottle that we fed them with until they were big enough to release. The problem was, they would all hang around the farm afterwards. The fox was so afraid of thunder storms that he would chew a hole in the screen door and run into the bedroom and hide in my Dad's sheepskin slippers. And our big German Shepherd was afraid of him.
