Backsplash idea to go with my vintage tile in my green galley
Comments (16)My thought was to essentially use the Heath tile as a field tile. The wall of green is my concern as well. I am not sure if I am going for strong statement presence for any tile. All the colors are fairly intense and my thought is that they will balance out so that no one color will shout out "look at me". I want the vintage tile to be there and have a presence but not necessarily shout. Also as my kitchen is a longish galley, there is really no perspective where someone sees the vintage tile straight on unless they are cooking or standing in the landing area. I will try to take a couple of perspective shots and post it. On using other 4x4s or cream or white tiles as field tiles. I have gone to fireclay multiple times as their tile time is similar to stonelight but nothing has really clicked. I am not able to picture the pencil liner around the vintage tile picture frame and the continung elsewhere idea. Robotropolis - Negative space for eye to rest --> I think I sort of get it but not sure how to achieve it :) Hopefully the wise ones in this forum will guide me and prevent me from going astray. Localeater - you are right. I do want to use the vintage tile as that has been the inspiration from the beginning and it is the tie in to the hood. Mabel - I specified the colrs based on the BM color sample sheets, The cabinet guys mixed it in the lacquer they use for spraying. I will recheck but the issue maybe the light when I took the photos. It was late evening on a cloudy day with only my splash....See MoreCorrugated metal backsplash
Comments (14)Corrugated metal typically has a galvanized zinc coating. These are supposed to act as protective coatings for the underlying iron (sometimes steel) sheets, but zinc itself does deterriorate over time - especially of course outdoors. Acids also can damage zinc surfaces. So I'd assume that lemon juice or tomato sauce splatters might leave dark spots. Cleaning products containing acids or any harsh cleaner would probably tarnish the zinc coating as well. I would experiment with a small sample of the material you're considering. People on this forum do this with marble samples all the time. Rub some lemon and tomato juice on it, leave it for a day or two, then see if washing it off with a damp sponge leaves the surface silvery shiny as before. If not, I'd research sealers or clear cotaings that can be used on zinc surfaces. Yes, electrical outlets will be tricky to install. Of course you could install pop-up outlets in the counter instead. As to bugs getting behind the sheet, yes of course the ends will need to be capped and sealed. The "corners" of corrugated metal are rounded, not sharp, so cleaning shouldn't be particularly difficult. I do agree with oldryder above, flat shiny metal sheets exacerbate the problem of uneven walls, but I believe that any corrugated material will have the opposite effect and will tend to hide any uneveness of the walls. As to corrugated metal being "unattractive", I can't believe the nerve of posters who, unasked, offer their utterly irrelevant personal opinions on aesthetics. Sheesh! Go for it! I for one, think that in the right space, corrugated metal could take a kitchen to the next level and look super cool. Best of luck!...See Morebacksplash tile options? Need suggestions
Comments (3)You will need to wait until the granite is installed and see it in your lighting. Also it will be horizontal not vertical. My guess will be a creamy white that matches the cream in the granite. Really you can go matte or shiny, but maybe matte would be better. Matte finishes aren’t as popular as polished but I’m sure you can google examples. I think coordinating the color of tile, cabinet and granite is the most important. Your granite choice is lovely. Once it is in, you might be able to choose one of the other colors in the granite to match a tile. You just don’t want them to clash. When you step back and view your granite, you will get an overall impression of color, and that is what you can go by....See MoreInspiration/Ideas for kitchen update, counters & backsplash
Comments (19)No updates to post yet! We do have someone coming this morning to measure and give us an idea of how many square feet (and how many slabs) we will need. So far, the front runner is the Silestone Copper Mist, but I'm still concerned it might be a little too cool, and it only comes in a polished finish. I've also looked at some soapstone look alikes--in a leathered finish. I really like the look of a dark counter with our cabinets and furnishings. We've visited 4 granite yards so far, and haven't found a light colored granite that wasn't too busy or "splotchy", spotted looking. I also prefer the looks of a non polished finish, but I've read several posts about upkeep being a nightmare. There are so many different finishes--honed, leathered, suede, etc. It's hard to know which one would be the right choice! I'll definitely update when we finish....See MoreGlassonion91168
