The tale of two spots and two perennials...

So not really a tale, but a request for suggestions.. A little background info first.. Live in southern NJ zone 7 - beginning of the summer my mom purchased a 'Miss Kim' Lilac bush - it still is in the pot/container.. Now we are looking to get a 'Crape Myrtle Purple Magic' .. At maturity the crape myrtle should grow to be 4 - 6 ft .. The miss kim lilac should grow to the height of 4 - 9 feet.. I've heard that both plants like sun.. The thing that we are having trouble with is placement.. One spot is north-facing with well drained soil .. And the other spot faces west and is at the bottom of a small hill - so presumably not the best drainage.. Is anyone farmiliar with these plants and the type of habit they thrive in? Thanks so much and apologies for the long post
