Timber vs block for backyard retaining wall
Comments (2)Timber when done right can last, but there are also block walls that are only slightly more depending on the block and more reliable in the long run. Hope this helps!...See MoreBackyard design help
Comments (22)The bamboo fencing looks nice when new, but outdoors it's going to weather out soon. Also, you must frame it out or it will look cheap. It's not going to be a long lasting solution. You'd get more mileage out of shade cloth, the nice looking type. It would be cheaper and easier to install, too. Since you're willing to spend some money on a solution, you might have other options in decorative outdoor fabrics. But whatever you do is not going to keep animals that can climb (both snakes and raccoons out if they want to come in. What keeps them out for the most part is that that's where they want to be unless you offer them a food source....See MoreHelp with backyard design needed
Comments (4)What benefits are you expecting to get from a re-landscape? To actually accomplish designing the back yard landscape, instead of thinking about it as a mental exercise, you'll need to start drawing it on paper so that you can work out your ideas and commit them to a paper record. This starts with preparing a base plan ... a "map" of only the major land features that will remain permanently: fences/lot lines, tree trunks, building footprints, paved areas, etc. If it's not permanent, don't include it. Don't add any extra elements to the base plan -- no shading, hatching, small plants, temporary features, etc., as they only serve to clutter it. The base plan needs to be drawn measured and as accurately as possible so that when ideas are superimposed on it, one can have confidence that the finished product will work out as shown. Unlike many back yards where the objective is often to visually screen out all of the neighboring properties, it looks like here there are some view that should be preserved. You'll want to assess where views need to be retained....See MoreBackyard Design -- Your suggestions?
Comments (21)Hi @Bryan! It looks like you've received some great help on top of the great plan you laid out. I noticed you are leaving space for a fire pit. Have you decided on what kind of fire pit you wanted to include? There are many different sizes, options, sources of heat to choose from, so I wanted to make sure I gave you my best input on that part of the yard. There are numerous benefits to whatever you decide to go with, but you have considered installing a gas fire pit? Unlike a traditional wooden fire, gas fire pits are easy to use, reliable, convenient, and smoke-free. Another factor is whether to use natural gas or liquid propane. Looking at the pictures you've put in the thread, a few fire pits we would recommend would be the Cove series, a Cortlin fire pit table, or a Beacon fire pit table. Other options can be found here. Good luck with your backyard project!...See MoreYardvaark
