I live in a very windy area on Vancouver Island. The wind hits us from both the NW and the NE, often in excess of 20mph and up to 50mph. I have just installed a new 8' fence to block the wind from the NE, and a new gazebo with one solid wall to block the wind from the NE. It works! The strongest winds are now mere cooling breezes, and we have more privacy.
P.S. I have a latticed gazebo roof with both horizontal and vertical boards. It provides dappled shade all day in an area that used to be too hot to use.
