Oh my goodness, did I kill my Sambucus Black Lace?
Comments (21)Don't give up! I can tell you our 4 Sambucus shrubs really took off this year after being planted 3 years ago. They are finally stunning and thriving! We were really considering giving up on them if they looked as ratty at the end of this season as they did for the last couple. I'm really stunned and wish I had a before/after pic because it really is something. By the way... No fertilizer - no nothing other than it's "natural" environment and some minimal pruning/shaping....See MoreI think I killed my roses.
Comments (5)Were they potted roses when you bought them? Did you see a big knobby looking thing sticking up were all of the canes were coming from? You might not have burried the graft underground and they died over the winter. Roses start to leaf out very early in spring, March around here and probably the same for you. Brown does mean that those canes are dead for sure. If there is anylife left new ones would come up but it doesn't sound good for much hope. Don't give up on roses just try again....See MoreDid I kill my rose?
Comments (1)Hard to believe it won't come back. Keep it mulched, watered, exposed to the sun etc....See MoreDid I damage/kill my roses from heavy pruning at wrong time?
Comments (7)Depending on how hot it is right now for you they may sulk for a bit but will eventually decide to grow. Pruning often stimulates roses into putting out new growth. So unless they are grafted and you cut the grafts off, which it doesn't sound at all like you did, they should be just fine! Keep them watered and maybe a shot of fertilizer and you'll have new blooms in no time!...See Morejonnynathy
