I like tomato sandwiches too, but my choice of bread is usually lightly toasted San Francisco sourdough.

I like mine on rye too, but with mustard and cheddar.

Well-toasted sliced sourdough of a quality brand (some isn't very sour), or rye, Gruyere cheese, mayo and tomato for me.

We are loaded with wonderful tomatoes right now. I've discovered an intolerance to wheat products that I have to take seriously so no tomato sandwiches these days. My favorite in the past was a garden tomato on a toasted English muffin, with S&P, a few drops of a good balsamic vinegar, and a swipe of yummy Dukes mayo.

Whole wheat bread with Dukes mayo and my favorite Cherokee Purple tomato. Sometimes a couple of slices of bacon or avocado.

Give me a slice of thick ciabatta bread drizzled with olive oil, fresh tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil, some sal e pepe and yum. Just a little bit of heaven on earth.

Anyone ever eat szalonna (Hungarian) or slanina (Slovak)? Just another little bit of heaven on earth. Our family used to eat it every summer with fresh garden vegetables. You make a fire, preferably with apple or maple wood. You get a slab of bacon, put it on a long handled fork and score the side into diamond shapes. You get a loaf of the very best rye with seeds, of course. And you need a metal pie tin. Then slice up tomatoes and other veggies--peppers, cukes, onions, whatever. Stick that bacon over the fire until the bacon juices start dripping then put a slice of rye on the pie pan and squeeze the bacon juices down into the bread. Return the bacon to the fire until it starts dripping again. Squeeze the bread that way several times. Then load it with the fresh veggies, then add a few more squeezes of bacon juice on top of the veggies. Eat open faced and enjoy. My favorite was just tomatoes. Yummy!

I too was thinking sour dough. All three of us, Californians. Hm...

I've been thinking about BLT's for about a week now.........going to stop at farm stand today and pick up some tomatoes.

Once a year, during tomato season, I buy thick sliced bologna, put a slice on a plate, smear a little mayo on , add thick slice of tomato, mayo on other slice of meat....eat with a fork. No bread.

I've been known to crumble potato chips over my tomatoes! :o)

Since at my house we are over run by tomatoes, zucchinis, and yellow squash I will be eating a lot of these sandwiches. I like multigrain bread thinly sliced tomatoes sprinkled with pepper and salt. Never eat mayonnaise but a thinly sliced avocado on top. Nothing like a summer tomato and I gorge on them till the crop is over and then nothing till the following summer.

My favorite is a cheese sandwich on very good bread, mayo, and fresh basil.

I'll take my tomato back on the vine or on some else's plate. As a kid, my Mom

grew tomatoes, canned them, cooked with them, yada, yada...and I just can't eat

them anymore. I do love a good BLT without the T though.

My favorite sandwich eaten only when my own tomatoes are ready---bacon, lettuce, tomato, and chicken salad. On a good firm white bread.

rhizo, this recipe is a substitute for wheat bread. It contains no grain products of any kind. I use it because I live a low carb life style and I've found it works well when I'm feeling like a sandwich.

They don't have a lot of flavor of their own, but I add seasonings to the "dough" such as garlic, ground chili peppers, cumin, dill - depends on my mood. I also sometimes use flavored cream cheese instead of regular cream cheese.

It doesn't stand up well to moisture, so if you were to make a tomato sandwich, I'd put a lettuce leaf or a slice of cheese between the "bread" and the tomatoes. Other than that, I've come to really like these and even use them as hamburger buns.

Doesn't get much better than that unless one prefers another type of bread and perhaps a bit of bacon on that sandwich!

I just bought some beautiful home grown tomatoes at the farm store Saturday and I bought a package of thick Sliced bacon. I am thinking about lunch now!

Still waiting for my green tomatoes to start turning red. A tomato, mayo and slice of cheese on any soft bread is one of my favorite sandwiches! Definitely a summer sandwich.

A favorite of mine is bacon, lettuce and tomato with mayo or Miracle Whip on white bread.

Sourdough bread, lightly toasted, spread with Hellmann's/Best Foods mayonnaise, topped with giant sweet tomatoes and sprinkled with a coarse grey salt, that is summer on toast. My other great summer love is home made pesto.

I thought I responded last night but don't see my post. Anyhoo - mine are on whole wheat or whole grain bread, Duke's mayo, with my homegrown Cherokee Purple tomatoes, and a sprinkle of salt. Sometimes I add a little bacon and/or avocado. Heaven on a plate!

outside your answer posted before. Because I thought, must be southern to eat it like that (I'm a Nashvillean, even if I've lived many places including CA) since that tomato is a Tennessee Cherokee tribe hand-me-down, and Duke's. A very southern mayo (Greenville, SC).

I love a toasted bacon, tomato, cheese, turkey, lettuce sandwich with a dill pickle on the side. I only have one a year. lol
