favorite dunn edwards paint colors?

Comments (22)Be sure to test a fairly large sample on various walls. The yellow colors change during the day depending on the natural light, and then again with any artificial light. We painted our kitchen/family room 3 times before we got something that worked. I had painted sample patches on one wall, but the exposure varied on the others and those first 2 colors just didn't work. I appreciate everyone's input on this as it's time to re-paint and I want something just a little different this time....See MoreWhat white goes with Dunn Edwards Cloud
Comments (3)Do we just go with basic "white", or are there specific guidelines when choosing white? There are. DE's White DEW380 works well with Cloud - pretty color choice, btw. Also, regarding finish, it seems eggshell is very common. My contractor recommends using the VersaSatin paint which has a "satin" finish. Are these both similar? They are not similar. Versa has a typical level of shiny for a satin. Every brand's gloss levels are different which makes it really hard to have a conversation about finishes unless you have samples in front of you, but this one fits what most people expect a satin to look like - IMHO. DE's eggshell is not shiny but the "hand" still has some slip. Eggshell on the wall. Satin in closets, on doors and trim. Flat on the ceiling. Finally, what accent color goes well? I'm thinking Ice Gray, but we're currently out of town for a week and are unable to put the color samples on the wall. Nope. Ice Gray belongs to the Yellow-Red hue family. Cloud belongs to the Green-Yellow hue family. It wouldn't be awful, but you can do better. And unless there's a reason or a need to apply an accent color, you probably don't even need one. Also, near neutrals like Ice Gray that belong to the YR hue family can shift and look quite purple in certain qualities of light. You don't want to use a color like this one unless you can test and sample and test and sample some more in the space....See MorePaint match from Dunn Edwards Smoke & Ash to Sherwin Williams?
Comments (14)Flo Mangan, oh you're good! Thank you so much! I went to SW and sifted through so many colors. I'll have to look and see if this made my cut. You are SoooOooooo right about light. Literally just walking from the color wall over to a table the colors were shifting like a shape shifter and I'd say, "Whaaat?!" and turn right back around, ha! This is for a vanity in the mountains and there isn't tons of light in the room. Will be interesting to light-test it! ci_lantro, I know! I LOVE those mirros and I've already 'reversed engineered' them in my minds. In fact, IN FACT, I went to HD yesterday to look for metal edges and found some great choices. Had black metal soot all over my hands and face, ha, and would need to find a way to moisture proof the metal. You can buy it on many places, houzz included, but the measurements are a big for my space. Lulu bella I love your name! It DOES look gray but I'll bet in the right light or non-light, or if the moon is right, or if it's the third Thursday in a month with the letter R it would look blue...or not, LOL! Thank you all so much!...See MoreLori A. Sawaya
