I would treat it like a rust stain. Bleach, unfortunately, sets those stains. You can still remove it though, I am sure. One method would be to put lemon juice on the stain and put in the sun for a few hours. Repeat as necessary. The second option would be a commercial rust remover, use as directed. Good luck!

I don't think he's got the oils out yet. What about Dawn dishwashing liquid? Or ammonia? Of course the bleach is rinsed out.

You can wash them to remove oils, but no bleach. Blue Dawn is the best! I would then tackle any staining left.

Thanks Joel, he's going to get some Dawn. So should he just fill a bucket with warm water and put a healthy amount of dawn on the water? Or rub on the oily part and let sit for an hour or so, then wash it out in a bucket of warm water? Ultimately he will wash item in a top loader.

I would rub it right in there, let it set, then rinse or launder as usual. Some staining might not appear until after the clothing is dry. No dryer, though! :)

enduring - did it discharge during a plane flight? I've been thinking of packing some spray sunscreen for an upcoming trip.

That's the bad part about most sunscreens. It's the Avobenzone in sunscreens that causes the orange or yellowish stains. I looked at every single sunscreen in Walmart and could not find one without it. There have been threads on this board before about this issue so you might do a search for those. From what I remember them saying tho, it's nearly impossible to get it out. I think I would take them to the cleaners also, or at least call one and ask them if they can get it out. Ziplock bags are you friend when packing any type of liquids, even spray bottles....But please let us know if your friend has any success with the removal.

Mimi-the more "natural" brands do not have the benzene ingredient. Kiss my face and babyganics are two examples. I use both on myself and my kids. But yeah I'd still ziplock any sunscreen in a suitcase. I made a similar mistake years ago when I still used bath and body works stuff. Whole bottle of lotion, whole bottle of body spray, all over my clothes in a really strong scent, all over my beach vacation outfits. Oops. :/
