What kind of animal would make holes like this?

A friend who lives on several acres outside of Seguin TX, which is about 30 miles east of San Antonio, has new holes forming every day under a bird feeder. Her cat is very interested and sits staring at them.

She has lots of critters in that area, foxes, raccoons, armadillos, opossums, copperhead snakes, gophers, but these holes are recent and she doesn't think they are anything like what those animals would make. I suggested gophers, but she said they leave a mound when they dig. She's never seen rats, moles, or mice at her place.

The soil is sandy. The photos were taken on different days.

I asked her why she didn't dig around the pole and see if she could find anything, but she said it's barely standing and she doesn't want to dislodge it.

Anybody want to take a guess? Toads, lizards, snakes?
