Catching Up on Blooms

All the cultivars in this post were added last fall. These pictures are from the month of June, none of these plants are currently blooming...I did not get around to posting the pictures at the time but thought better late than never!

WALTER KENNEDY - nice bright bloom. Photo is from mid-morning. Blooms would generally not be all the way open when I left for work.

MOOSE MAN - very large bloom. Scapes tended to lean over.

PRIMAL SCREAM - grabs your attention!

CHIEF FOUR FINGERS - another one with leaning scapes (please excuse my arm). Blooms were not all the way open when I left for work. This photo is from late morning.

BRIGHT EYED AND BUSHY TAILED - short scapes but still a nice bloom.

BLUEGRASS MEMORIES - only three or four blooms this year but they all looked great.

BLACK HORNET - another with only three or four blooms, and all blooms were splotchy. Registered bud count is 40, so hopefully bud count will be better next year.

SULTRY SPANISH EYES - blooms always opened well and were open before work.

STUNNINGLY DIFFERENT - an eye-catching bloom.

GAGES FACEPAINT - one of my favorite new additions. So glad I ordered from Maryotts last year as Schreiner's does not carry it. Only a few blooms this year but all opened well.

Mantis, I looked back through my pictures/stats and found that Walter Kennedy had two scapes and a total of seven blooms. First bloom was May 30th and last bloom was June 9th. Blooms opened well, other than being a little slow to open in the morning. Shown below with Deep Impact.

Sherry, I really like the bloom on Gage's Facepaint. Here's a couple more pictures for you.

Nice ones again, Lori! Bluegrass Memories is my favorite today. Gage's Facepaint is really interesting, would like to see that one in person. What a shame Black Hornet was always splotchy, it's been a problem here this season. Chief Four Fingers is nice too, a and a poly.

Thanks everyone. I did make a mistake on one of my photos. It is really Carolyn Hunt not Carolyn Mann. Celeste, Odd Man Out was hybridized by some friends of mine CJ and Virginia Gregory we are all members of our local daylily club. Their garden is called Dragonwood and I believe they do have a website. Odd Man Out is their first introduction and is a outstanding grower for everyone that has it in there gardens. They also introduced another DL this year that is called Dragonwood Spellbound and it seems to grow just as well as Odd Man Out.

Thank you! This was the second bloom for Voila Francois. The first bloom occurred on a cool rainy day and did not open very well. I have had three or four blooms since then and those have opened well. The blooms seem to open early, as the photo in my post was taken around 6:20 AM. Lori

Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed is a striking bloom. Next year the scapes should be taller for you and look more balanced. It is my favorite of your pretty blooms today.

My favorite of these is Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed. That one should look fabulous when you get a clump of it. Chief Four Fingers is striking too! How often does it poly?

Debra, I checked through my pictures of Chief Four Fingers. I had six blooms, and five were polys. That would put it just over 80% for this season. Will be interesting to see how it performs next year.

Those extra petals make the flowers so heavy. No wonder the scapes lean :-)

Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed is my favorite. I love Walter Kennedy, but he doesn't seem to like our climate much.
