Growing Tomatoes

Has Anyone ever seen a tomato like this?

Again, this is my friends Cherokee Purple. She has two plants, one is producing all fruits like this the other is normal. I have never seen anything like this and would appreciate your help. Googling White Fly damage has the mottled appearance, but not the almost "agate like" etching on it. Any help would be appreciated. (She is in Bowling Green, KY which I think is zone 6 B).

SHe is growing in 15 gal grow bags, fertilizers 2 times a week, uses Promix BX if that helps.

Looks to me like Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus.

It is yellow jackets!!!! I got up close enough to really see when they weren't stirred up and one came out of the hole and I could see the top of the nest down in there! I placed a rock there beside it so DH could gas them. I can't because I am highly allergic to this sort of things. IF it wasn't for that I would leave them alone but I am here by myself during the day and I can't have them biting me when I mow around there. Thanx everyone!!! :)

Once in a while you get a "sport" or mutation. That's how some new varieties are discovered. You can bag the flower to collect the seeds when it finishes blooming and see what happens to the offspring. If other blossoms on the same vine are normal, it's unlikely that a gene will be passed down. You can mark that vine (use a twist tie or piece of yarn) to see if more of these flowers occur.

Determining why it is not draining seems to be an important step. If the framing it is attached to is sagging, that will have to be fixed whether you get new gutters or not. I would recommend you ask whoever you get to look at it to determine why that is and what they recommend. Don't just tell them you want new gutters. These may be fine and something else is going on.

Your friend should remove that plant. Plants do not recover from viruses, and that plant could serve as a reservoir to infect other plants.

She should examine her plants carefully to see whether there are thrips still present (thrips are the vector). If so, she should treat her other plants.

Thanks so much. I will tell her to remove the plant. If she finds thrips, what would you suggest she treat the other plants with?

If she wants a relatively organic option, spinosad is listed as killing thrips. She should spray every surface of the plants, including flowers/buds, the undersides of leaves, etc. Repeat 3 days later to kill the thrips that were eggs for the first spray or managed to hide. I would repeat again a few days later.

Spinosad is a bit more broad-spectrum than most biologicals, so she should do it in the evening after the bees are finished.
