enjoyingspring, do you mind telling us what sort of things you have made in the past so that we don't give you ideas you've already done?

My sister was just telling me about a craft item she and others did for their local charity, painted rocks. I never heard of it, but just Google it and you finds all kinds info about it.

I was going to ask the question Dawn asked. What type of crafts are you interested in?

I love those crocheted scrubbies. If the yarn is stiff enough, they are so easy to use and launder. I also like large heavy duty doilies to use as pan separators to keep my stacked pans from scratching one another.

I have made purses, infinity scarves, knitted dishclothes, crochet towel toppers, sewn bears, knitted mittens, crochet necklaces, stained glass. Even done some woodworking (3D reindeer). I like to make items that people will actually use and not just through in the closet.

Of course you've made pot holders crochet about 40-50 chains then go round and round forming an envelope then fold to have the stitched diagonal. Then stitch together?

From years ago, DH bought me a brick for a doorstop. The ladies at work selling them for some charity covered the brick to be the seat of a sofa, added rounded arms and a back and then attached two little bears to the sofa. It's cute and it works!

Since you've made scarves, here's another idea. My sister bought me one for my birthday, we were at a craft show when I admired it. It's a scarf but small so there's no bulk. It's a little stretchy, made from beautifully soft wool, I just love mine (mine is a grey mixy colour wool). The person who made it (who is also an artist as you can see from this pic I found on Facebook) told us she developed the pattern herself, but you could probably find a similar pattern online or make one yourself if you can do that sort of thing.

The totems are used out in the garden or flower beds etc just as a decorative item. Some I make are waterbaths for birds some hold birdseed. Various people use them various ways.

I surprise myself with having an idea. Wool mittens for adults. Conservative, mostly solid colors subdued colors. Likewise, legwarmers, arm warmers, and wrist warmers, fingerless gloves-- all of whose focus is function rather than fashion.

My favorite craft from last Christmas time is a nice tall cocoa mug with the homemade cocoa mix in a small decorated zip lock bag that is tucked into the mug. There was a cute poem or something tucked inside the mug too along with directions to add the appropriate amount of hot milk. I am still using my snowman mug from last Christmas now in July!

Make something for pets, people do love their animals. I used to make snowmen, snow women, snow kids and pets for yard decor when that was popular. People always got the most excited about the pets.

I saw one of the aprons made out of a mans shirt while on vacation and they are so cute. If you do Pinterest there are a lot of patterns for them there. They are fairly easy. I want to do them from my husbands shirts for our girls.

I saw a creative use for old Levi or Wrangler denim pants. A waitress cut off the waistband, front and pockets to wear as an apron at work. She tied it on in the back.

What about quilted coasters? I bought some recently I just love.

Nice, Bluebell! I also have little quilted mini placemats - just big enough for a mug and small plate or bowl. Nice when having a snack. I use those often, they were a gift from a friend but she got them at a craft sale.

No sew fleece blankets in various sizes for babies or adults or small ones with a pillow inserted in the center for a cat or small dog. (I'd use an animal print fleece). Pet toys....pull toys or catnip filled for cats. Wood plaques with sayings like "No home (or outfit) is complete without dog (cat) hair." Or the dog(cat) lives here, you don't. Fake fur (gray) finger puppet mice were my best sellers when I did craft shows years ago. More adults bought them than the children did. LOL

One of my favorite craft show purchases is a rice bag. It is a simple rectangular bag about 12" x 6" stuffed with white rice although, I think most any grain would work. The bag is then stuffed inside a removable bag with an opening and flap on one end (like a very small pillow case). The case can be removed and laundered as needed.

On cold winter nights these bags can be heated up in the microwave (about 2 minutes) and placed in between the sheets before going to bed. They not only warm the bed, but are very soothing to snuggle up with once in bed. They are also good for just lounging around with a book during a lazy winter day.

I did one of those with rock salt in it when my husband had broken his knee. The orthopedic surgeon that took care of him told me that they were great for that and reduced swelling. I bought ice cream salt. Sewed a bag long rectangular and filled it with salt then hand sewed it closed. I made another exact bag but with one side a little longer than the other so it could flap over and put velcro on each side to keep it closed. It worked great. It was very easy to microwave it to get it warm. The salt was supposed to help reduce the inflammation.

Another great craft is little cell phone purses with a long shoulder strap for cross body. Pinterest has a lot of good options.

The bow tie is adorable. How is it attached? I would buy one for my dog if the price was right.

Or.....I love turtles. I was once given a turtle made out of a walnut shell with lentils as his feet/head/tail. Or.....a turtle pin cushion.

Or....buy candles for a $1 @ Dollar Tree and apply word art on each candle. "Restore", "Relax", "Revive".....or wise sayings, "Live in wonder & find beauty in the everyday". I just purchased several to give as gifts as a house warming...birthday.

I sewed a piece of Velcro on the back and you attach that to the dog collar.

I picked up some wool gloves on eBay to do these gloves. All kinds of ideas/animals. What makes them so cool is how the two gloves play off each other, regardless of what animal or idea is depicted(horses, cats, dogs, hearts with initials, etc.)...and they're on the palms. Raven, I thought you might especially like to see these totems. They are made by Ashley Hicks, he is the son of David Hicks, a very important 20th. C. British designer and a scion of the UK Royal family- so as they say provenance matters. His totems sell for 1,480 British Pounds. He is currently sold out.

Wow interesting! Wish mine would sell for that lol. His reminds me of stacked rocks. I have always had a fascination with stacked rocks, especially when you see them in totally unexpected places.

There's so much inspiration on etsy. I can spend way too much time there. I have bought a few small signs from one person on etsy. They would be very easy to do. You can buy the blank wood already cut into shapes at hobby stores. Paint them a solid color and apply stick on letters. I have bought the wood cut outs in Fleur-de-lis shapes and glued buttons on in various colors and shapes. I did a lot of button art for a while. Google button art its on pinterest too. They are beautiful framed.
